About Our Services
The Westcom Dispatch Center is a shared emergency office. We answer 911 calls and send police, fire, and medical help to six cities:
- Clive
- Norwalk
- Urbandale
- Waukee
- West Des Moines
- Windsor Heights
How Westcom Works
Before 2001, many local cities had their own small dispatch centers. By joining together into Westcom, we provide better service and save taxpayer money.
Benefits of a Shared Center
- Better Communication: Police and fire crews from different cities can talk to each other directly on the same radio system during big emergencies.
- Lower Costs: Cities save money by sharing the cost of expensive technology and computer systems.
- Shared Information: All six cities use the same records system, making it easier to share vital safety data.
Our Team
Westcom is located at 8055 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. Our team includes:

- 5 Shift Supervisors.
- A management team led by a Chief and two Assistant Chiefs.
A committee of city leaders oversees our policies and budget.
