Residential Scrap Tire Collection

The City of West Des Moines, in partnership with Metro Waste Authority, is offering a free Residential Scrap Tire Collection. This event helps residents safely and legally dispose of old tires.

The collection is open to West Des Moines residents only. It will take place at the Public Services East facility, located at 560 S. 16th Street. Use the last driveway on S. 16th Street in the cul‑de‑sac. Tires will be accepted at the gate.

Rules for Drop‑Off

  • Open to West Des Moines residents only.
  • Maximum of five tires per household (no rims).
  • No tires from businesses.
  • No semi‑trailer, farm, or tractor tires.
  • No solid tires such as lawnmower, forklift, or golf cart tires.
  • No tires containing hazardous materials.

If you cannot attend this free event, you still have options. Metro Waste Authority offers year‑round drop‑off containers at several locations.

Illegal dumping and stockpiling of used tires can create serious health and safety risks. In Iowa, it is illegal to dump tires, and non‑shredded tires are banned from landfills.
