Community Compliance

Did you know that City Code provides important guidelines for maintaining your property - not just to keep things looking nice, but to help ensure a safer, more livable community for everyone.  The Public Services Department is responsible for the enforcement of certain nuisance codes. 

Common Complaints:

  • Junk cars (inoperable, not properly licensed, parts missing, etc.) on private property.
  • Vehicles and trailers parked on unpaved surfaces.
  • Junk and debris in the yard.
  • Weeds and/or grass growing to a height of 10" or more. 
  • Snow and ice removal from sidewalks. (24 hours after snow has ceased, a 24-hour notice will be given.)

Taking a few simple steps on your property can make a big difference for your neighbors - and for the whole City.

Report a Violation:

  • Use SeeClickFix on the City's website, or download the SeeClickFix app for Android or iPhone. 
  • Contact 515-222-3480 between 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Community Compliance Process: 

  • Investigate to determine if there is truly a violation that we can enforce.
  • If a violation exists, the property owner is contacted by mail to notify them of the violation.
  • Most circumstances the property owner has 7 to 10 days to correct the violation.
