Hire an Off-Duty Officer

West Des Moines officers are available for private assignments to provide additional security and police services. Please review the requirements below before submitting your request.

Pay Rates & Minimums

  • Standard Rate: $75.00 per hour
  • Holiday & Emergency Rate: $100.00 per hour
  • Minimum Requirement: 3-hour minimum per officer

Emergency rates apply to any request made with less than 72 hours' notice.

Payment & Cancellations

Pay officers directly at the end of the shift unless other arrangements are made in advance.

  • Cancellations: If you cancel after the assignment window (noon on the third day before the job), a 3-hour payout per officer is required.
  • Arrival: Once officers arrive, they must be paid for the full contracted time.

Premium Pay Holidays

The $100 per hour rate applies to: New Year’s Eve/Day, MLK Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving (and the following Friday), and Christmas Eve/Day.

Important Information

  • Officers only perform police-related activities.
  • If WDM officers are unavailable, we may offer the job to neighboring agencies.
  • We will make a good faith effort to fill requests, but assignment is not guaranteed.
