Community Police Academy

The West Des Moines Community Police Academy is an educational program designed to give the public an inside look at how our department functions. Participants will learn about the law enforcement profession, department opportunities, and the modern challenges facing officers today.

Since 2002, we have hosted this annual program to build stronger connections with our residents (previously known as the Citizen Police Academy).

Program Details & Requirements

  • Schedule: Classes are held on Thursday evenings during the spring.
  • Age: Participants must be 18 years of age or older (some exceptions may be permitted).
  • Safety: All participants must consent to and pass a background check.
