The West Des Moines Police Department partners with residents and property managers through several initiatives designed to strengthen our community and improve neighborhood safety.

Iowa Crime Free Multi-Housing Program

This solution-oriented program helps tenants, owners, and managers keep illegal activity off rental properties. Using a unique three-part approach, we work to reduce crime while maintaining a tenant-friendly environment.

WDMPD uses Nextdoor to stay connected with our neighborhoods. We utilize our agency account to:

  • Share useful safety information and community updates.
  • Promote positive interactions within our neighborhoods.
  • Monitor community-wide posts to better serve our residents.

Ring Neighbors

We encourage residents to use the Neighbors app to report suspicious activity. Through our agency partnership, we can monitor neighborhood safety alerts.

  • Report Crimes: We encourage users to post about crimes or suspicious activity.
  • Dispatch Coordination: When calling 911 or Westcom Dispatch, let them know if you have posted video to the app.

Note: Sharing video at the time of an officer's response is highly helpful for an appropriate call resolution.
