Nature Sanctuary & Arboretum

The Arboretum will be a premier outdoor classroom. The sanctuary features 79 different tree species, creating a diverse ecosystem for hands-on ecology lessons and nature study.

Jordan House Museum

Managed by the West Des Moines Historical Society, this Victorian mansion is a recognized stop on the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom.

Planned Future Features

Public Art Installation (Coming 2027)

In partnership with the WDM Public Arts Commission, a new Public Art piece will be installed in 2027. This landmark will serve as a visual centerpiece, celebrating the intersection of creativity, history, and nature.

Pioneer Log Cabin (Coming 2027)

An authentic pioneer-era Log Cabin is scheduled for 2027. This structure will offer a tangible look at mid-19th century settler life on the museum grounds.

Community Orchard

The Orchard will feature fruit-bearing trees to promote local agroforestry. This space is designed to attract essential pollinators like bees and butterflies while providing a unique sustainable food source for the community.

Nature Playground & Trails

Future development includes a Nature Playground—using logs and boulders for creative play—and a completed network of trails connecting to the Jordan Creek Trail.
