Jamie Hurd Amphitheater

The Jamie Hurd Amphitheater is a community-focused cultural space located on the West Des Moines City/School Campus. It serves as a hub for inspiring musical performances, creative showcases, and community gatherings.

Venue Details

Our facility is designed to host events of all sizes, from intimate weddings and reunions to large-scale festivals and fundraisers.

Capacity: Lawn seating for up to 2,000 guests.
Stage: Large performance area built to accommodate up to 50 musicians.
Event Types: Perfect for concerts, outdoor movies, theatrical performances, and private celebrations.

History & Funding

The Jamie Hurd Amphitheater was made possible through the generous support of the Microsoft Corporation and the Richard and Linda Hurd family, along with Local Option Sales and Services Tax revenue. It is the second major project completed as part of the Five Waters Project.

Visitor Information

The following rules help keep the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater safe and enjoyable for everyone. Please note that event renters may have different policies.

Parking

Free parking is available at West Des Moines City Hall, the Library, or the WDMCS Learning Resource Center. Accessible parking is located on the east side of the City Hall lot. No parking is allowed on S 35th Street.

Seating

There is no permanent seating. Please bring your own folding chairs or blankets to sit on the lawn.

Food and Beverage

You are welcome to bring outside food and drinks. There is no drinking fountain on-site, but food trucks are often available during events.

Alcohol Policy

Standard Events: Beer, wine, and canned cocktails are allowed (cans only, 16oz or smaller). No glass or hard liquor.
Friday Night Live: No outside alcohol is permitted. Drinks must be purchased inside the venue.

Restrooms and Pets

Restrooms: Portable toilets are located on-site.
Pets: Leashed pets are welcome if they do not disturb other guests.
Prohibitions: Smoking, vaping, and glass containers are strictly prohibited.

Friday Night Live

Join us at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater for Friday Night Live, a free summer series featuring live music and outdoor movies. All events are held on the third and fourth Fridays of June, July, and August.

Autumn at the Amphitheater Series

Autumn at the Amphitheater

Formerly known as Summer Sundays, this series features free live music on Sunday evenings from mid-August through early October. Enjoy the cooler fall weather with local bands and rotating food trucks.

Beverage Policy

The following rules apply to standard use of the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater. Please note that private rental events may have different policies.

Water and Soft Drinks

There is no drinking fountain on-site. Visitors are welcome to bring their own water and non-alcoholic beverages. When food trucks are present, they typically have drinks available for purchase.

Alcoholic Beverages

At most events, visitors may bring beer, wine, and canned cocktails. All alcohol must be in cans or containers no larger than 16 ounces.

Prohibited: Glass bottles and hard liquor are strictly forbidden at all times.

Special Rules for Friday Night Live

To ensure a safe environment during our Friday Night Live music concerts, the following alcohol policy is enforced:

No Outside Alcohol: You may not bring your own alcoholic beverages. Bags and coolers will be checked at the entrance.
On-Site Sales: Alcohol will be available for purchase inside the venue. A valid ID is required.
Payment: Sales are card or Apple Pay only (no cash).
No Tipping: Our servers are not permitted to accept tips.
