Managing Local Wildlife

The Controlled Bowhunt Program was created to safely manage deer populations within our city parks and protected areas. By maintaining a healthy balance of wildlife, we protect the local ecosystem and reduce deer-related accidents in the community.

Program History & Impact

Established in 2004 at Southwoods Park and expanded to Raccoon River Park in 2017, the program now includes private property management zones. Since its start, volunteer hunters have harvested over 280 deer, significantly improving the health of our natural habitats.

Active Hunting Locations:

  • Southwoods Park: 350 S. 35th Street
  • Raccoon River Park: 2500 Grand Avenue
