Project Overview: This project consists of reconstruction of Ashworth Road generally from the north leg of 19th Street to the north leg of 23rd Street. The roadway cross section will consist of two 11-foot through lanes, one 12-foot two-way left turn lane, and one 11-foot dedicated right turn lane in both eastbound and westbound directions with a 1-foot offset to curb. The 19th Street intersection will be shifted approximately 2 feet north and the 22nd Street intersection will be shifted approximately 2 feet south resulting in a 4-foot lane shift between these two major intersections. Sidewalks will generally be 9.5 feet from back of curb where right turn lanes are not planned (similar to existing) and will generally be 7.5 feet from back of curb where right turns lanes are planned. The project will also include watermain replacement along the north side of Ashworth Road from 20th Street to 23rd Street.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: Roadway improvements on Ashworth Road, from 19th Street to 23rd Street, are ongoing. On July 13th, the contractor closed the intersection of 19th Street and Ashworth Road. However, the intersection at 22nd Street and Ashworth Road will remain open to the west and north; please note that the traffic signals there have been disabled and temporarily replaced with all-way stops.
Through traffic on Ashworth Road should follow the signed detour route along Valley West Drive, EP True Parkway, Grand Avenue, and 8th Street. Meanwhile, local access to residences within the closure area will remain available from the north via 20th and 21st Streets.
As utility work begins on the water main and storm sewer, commuters should expect additional closures throughout the summer and fall of 2026.

Project Overview: The project includes reconstruction of Booneville Road from the South 60th Street intersection approximately 1,200 feet to the east towards the Raccoon River Drive intersection to accommodate improved traffic circulation in the area on a paved surface. Booneville Road will be reconstructed from an existing 2-lane gravel roadway to a 2-lane undivided roadway with a typical 31-foot cross section. Watermain will not be extended with this project. Sidewalk will only be constructed with the project if a reimbursement agreement is executed.
Project Status as of 07/01/2026: This section of Booneville Road remains closed. The contractor has finished installing the storm sewer and has begun subgrade work, with paving to follow soon.

Project Overview: This project consist of construction of EP True Parkway from Bridgewood Boulevard to Wendover Lane. Planned development east of Grand Prairie Parkway is necessitating the construction of EP True Parkway (minor arterial street classification) from Grand Prairie Parkway to Wendover Lane. The construction of the eastern phase of WP True Parkway from Bridgewood Boulevard to Wendover Lane will include 2,400 feet of 3-lane urban cross section (ultimate 5-lane cross section) with one lane in each direction and a continuous left turn lane in the center. The project will also include new watermain, a shared-use path, and fiber conduit along EP True Parkway.
Project Status as of 07/01/2026: Installation of the storm sewer, water main, and subgrade is complete, as is the majority of the paving. The contractor will begin working on the trail soon.

Project Overview: Reconstruction of Grand Avenue from I-35 to South 60th Street from an existing 3-lane undivided roadway to a 6-lane divided roadway, including a trail along the south side of the roadway.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: The majority of the paving is complete. Raccoon River Drive just north of Grand Avenue remains closed for intersection improvements. Access to Oaks on Grand, Maverik, and the southern entrance of Glen Oaks will be maintained via a temporary intersection at Grand Avenue and Glen Oaks Drive.

Project Overview: The project will include abandonment of the 36-inch sanitary sewer along the north side of Grand Avenue from just east of South 35th Street to the Raccoon River Park, wherein the sewer increases in size to 42-inch through Raccoon River Park to Jordan Creek. The project will also include the extension of sanitary sewer near South 33rd Street to tie into the Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA) sewer, the relocation of any existing sanitary sewer services that need to tie into the adjacent WRA sewer, filling the abandoned sewer with flowable fill, backfilling abandoned manholes, and removing manhole castings and cone sections.
Project Status as of 6/17/2026: The contractor has started the sewer abandonment within Raccoon River Park.
Sewer work at the intersection of South 33rd Street and Grand Avenue is complete. Grand Avenue has been reopened to all traffic; construction continues on the adjacent trail.

Project Overview: This project includes the widening of Grand Avenue from South Jordan Creek Parkway to South 60th Street to accommodate the proposed Grand Experience development and increased traffic volumes in the area. The project will involve the widening of Grand Avenue to achieve a 6-lane divided roadway section. The project will also include the replacement of the temporary span-wire traffic signals at the South Jordan Creek Parkway intersection to permanent pole-mounted traffic signals as well as the installation of new traffic signals at the two intermediate full-access intersections between South Jordan Creek Parkway and South 60th Street. A shared use path already exists on the south side of Grand Avenue in this area. PCC patching of the existing pavement will also be included.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: The contractor has started earthwork and grading on site.

Project Overview: This project consists of improvements to the Grand Prairie Parkway & EP True Parkway Intersection. Planned development east of Grand Prairie Parkway is necessitating the construction of EP True Parkway from Grand Prairie Parkway to Wendover Lane. Improvements to Grand Prairie Parkway will include the construction of the remaining three (3) northbound lanes from EP True Parkway to the I-80 interchange, as well as the necessary northbound and southbound left turn lanes and connection to EP True Parkway. Grand Prairie Parkway will transition back to a 3-lane cross section just south of the intersection until such time that traffic volumes warrant widening of the roadway to Mills Civic Parkway. The project will also include a new traffic signal and accommodate a new watermain and shared-use path along EP True Parkway.
Project Status as of 6/17/2026: The contractor has completed paving at the intersection, the medians are complete, and the traffic signals have been installed. They are currently working on restoration and punch list items.

Project Overview: This project includes the reconstruction of Mills Civic Parkway from South 91st Street to South Grand Prairie Parkway from an existing paved 2-lane rural roadway cross section to a 3-lane urban roadway cross section. The initial reconstruction will include the southern three lanes (future eastbound lanes) with grading to accommodate the future widening of the northern three lanes (future westbound lanes) of the ultimate 6-lane divided urban cross section (major arterial classification). The existing 2-lane roadway will be utilized as much as possible throughout the reconstruction process but ultimately will be removed with this project. The project will include a shared use path on the south side of the roadway as well as fiber conduit network expansion in the area. Mills Civic Parkway will be closed to thru traffic for up to 90 days while the new pavement tie-in connections are made at each end of the project. Stagecoach Drive from South 88th Street to South Grand Prairie Parkway will be utilized as the detour route during this time.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: The contractor has closed Mills Civic Parkway from South 91st Street to South Grand Prairie Parkway, and pavement removal is underway for phase 1. This phase of work includes grading, storm sewer installation, roadway paving, and erosion control measures.

Project Overview: Widening of Mills Civic Parkway from South 81st Street to South 88th Street from an existing 3-lane configuration to the planned ultimate 6-lane divided configuration with a median. The Project will be broken into 6 different stages, with some stages being worked on simultaneously.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: Median installations from 88th Street to 81st Street and sidewalk construction on the north side of Mills Civic Parkway have been completed. The contractor will remain on site to complete punch list items and restore the site.

Project Overview: This project includes extension of Riverview Drive and S 81st Street, including all utilities and appurtenances, within the Village at Sugar Creek subdivision.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: The contractor has completed sanitary sewer, water main, and storm sewer installation. Subgrade preparation is currently in progress, and paving is expected to begin the week of July 20th. The project remains on schedule to be complete by October 2026.

Project Overview: This project includes the construction of SE Salix Drive from Veterans Parkway to SE 1st Street associated with the Allied Construction Services development. SE Salix Drive is classified as a minor collector and will be a two-lane urban roadway cross-section. The project will also include storm sewer, watermain, and fiber conduit improvements.
Project Status as of 6/17/2026: The contractor has finished earthwork and grading at the site. Installation of the water main and storm sewer are ongoing.

Project Overview: This project includes reconstruction, PCC patching, and crack sealing to restore the pavement to the original specifications.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: Iowa Contracting is finishing clean up on the first phase of Thorne Dr and Timber Ln. Stonewood Dr at S Grand Prairie Pkwy closed for reconstruction on July 13th. Excavation and utility work will be ongoing for approximately 3 weeks followed by placement and recompaction of subgrade material, subbase, and paving. When the earthwork on Stonewood Dr is complete the contractor will begin phase 2 of Thorne Dr. The project is on schedule to be complete by September 2026.

Project Overview: Phase 10 includes the paving of Valley Junction Alleys in the 200 Block (Maple Street to Elm Street) between 2nd-3rd Street, 7th-8th Street, and 8th-9th Street that previously had storm sewer improvements completed on them and fall within a residential area (Priority 2). Each alley closure shall be limited to a consecutive four (4) week period. No more than one (1) alley may be closed at a time, excluding restoration. Work must be completed on an actively closed alley before proceeding to close the next alley, unless sufficient progress is being made.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: Work is substantially complete on the alleys between 7th and 8th Street, and 8th and 9th Street. The contractor has partially paved the alley between 2nd and 3rd Street. Crews will return at a later date to complete the final restoration for all areas.

Project Overview: The 12th & Vine Regional Stormwater Detention Facility is located on the former Bridges of Iowa site near 12th Street and Vine Street. This facility was first identified in the SE Basin Stormwater Study in 2013. The basin will mitigate the impacts of future capacity improvements north of Grand Avenue and allow the existing storm sewers south of Vine Street to remain without invasive upsizing. Work included in this contract includes grading, utilities, trail and site amenities.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: Tree clearing is complete on site and grading operations are expected to begin the week of July 20th.

Project Overview: The project will include the widening of Grand Avenue and the extension of a 5-lane cross section from just east of the Vine Street & Grand Avenue intersection through the 16th Street & Grand Avenue intersection, including the addition of a dedicated eastbound left turn lane at the 16th Street & Grand Avenue intersection. A pedestrian hybrid beacon will also be installed at the 16th Street & Grand Avenue intersection to allow a safe pedestrian crossing of Grand Avenue near two schools. his work will be identified as Division 1 within the Project specifications for bidding purposes. The project will also include the construction of upsized storm sewer piping under Grand Avenue as identified in the SE Drainage Basin Study completed in 2013. This latter work will be identified as Division 2 within the Project Specifications for bidding purposes.
Project Status as of 6/17/2026: The project was awarded at the June 15th City Council Meeting. The contractor has begun working on a project schedule and work will begin mid-July.

Project Overview: The project includes Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) street repairs and hot mixed asphalt (HMA) overlays on streets throughout the City. Work on the project will also include stormwater intake adjustments, manhole adjustments, sidewalk/ramp reconstruction, traffic control, and other miscellaneous work.
Project Status as of 7/16/2026: Roadway improvements on Western Hills Drive (47th Street to 39th Street) have begun. The contractor will close this section of road on Friday, July 17, and Monday, July 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for an asphalt overlay. Following the completion of the paving, the contractor will return to the area to reconstruct ADA sidewalk ramps and adjust storm and sanitary sewer structures.
Roadway improvements on 72nd Street, 68th Street, and Woodland Avenue have begun. Sections of these roads have been reduced to one lane of traffic to allow for full-depth concrete patching. Following the concrete patching, the contractor will return to the area to place the asphalt overlay.
The contractor has completed paving on Aspen Drive (47th Street to 41st Street); 17th Street (Buffalo Road to Center Place); Ponderosa Drive; the intersection of 71st and Dakota; 45th Street (between Woodland and Pleasant); Wistful Vista Drive (S. 49th Street to Meadow Valley Drive); and Stonebridge Road (39th Street to Valley West Drive). Crews will return to all sites at a later date to adjust utility structures and complete final restoration, which will be done under single-lane closures with minimal impact to traffic.

Project Status as of 07/01/2026: Roadway improvements on Woodland Ave (22nd Street to 20th Street) have begun. Sections of Woodland Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic to allow for surface milling and full-depth concrete patching. One lane will remain open at all times, with traffic alternating through the work zone as needed.
Roadway improvements are complete on Woodland Avenue (28th to 22nd Street), 24th Street (Woodland Ave to 1148 24th Street), and 18th Street (Ashworth Road to Woodland Avenue). Under single-lane closures, crews will return to finalize sidewalks, intake box outs, and restoration until all project requirements are met.

Roadway improvements on Westwood Drive (S 50th Street to S 41st Street) have begun. Local traffic will be reduced to one lane in active work areas to accommodate full-depth concrete patching.
Patching on Waterford Drive (S. 50th Street to Mills Civic Pkwy) is complete and open to all traffic. The contractor will return to the site for punch list items and restoration.

Project Status as of 07/01/2026: Roadway improvements on North Jordan Creek Parkway (I-80 to Ashworth Road), Glenwood Drive (S. 35th Street to S. 34th Street), Raccoon River Drive (S. 88th Street to Grand Ave), and South 68th Street (Mills Civic Pkwy to Stagecoach Drive) are finished. Crews will return to these sites for final restoration at a later date.

Project Overview: The project involves removing and reconstructing Giles Street from 32nd Street to 28th Street. The existing roadway pavement will be removed and replaced with Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) pavement, which will include preparation of subbase material. Water main will be replaced at isolated locations, storm sewer piping will be added, sanitary sewer manholes will be modified, and some sanitary sewer services will be replaced. Affected driveway approaches will be replaced and sidewalk ramps near intersections will be modified to be ADA compliant. All sidewalks will be replaced. The project also includes surface restoration, traffic control, and other related work. All properties may be accessed by parking on 28th Street, 29th Street, 30th Street, 31st Street, and 32nd Street with pedestrian access being maintained through the construction zone during the project.
Project Status as of 07/01/2026: The contractor has completed paving Phase 1 of the project, and the impacted driveways have been reinstalled. Phase 2 has begun, and crews have started removing pavement, with subdrain installation to follow.

Project Overview: The project involves repairing deteriorated storm sewer infrastructure, repairing impaired streambanks, and protecting public infrastructure at five (5) locations throughout the City of West Des Moines. To repair storm sewer infrastructure, work includes removing and replacing/resetting new pipe and apron sections. Work also includes brick manhole lining, replacement of a manhole structure, installation of fillet in an existing manhole, repair to tile connection at a culvert, crack repairs at a culvert, and repairing undermining at an outlet flume. To repair stream banks and protect public infrastructure, the work includes revetment stone placement, including excavation, to reinforce and inhibit further erosion of streambank areas adjacent to City infrastructure. Associated site work improvements include erosion controls, clearing and grubbing, surface restoration, seeding, sodding, and other related work.
Project Status as of 07/01/2026: The contractor has started work on multiple sites.

Project Overview: The project includes Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) patching, Hot Mixed Asphalt (HMA) resurfacing, installation of subdrain, utility adjustments, and associated work for the repair of the parking lots and access drives at various facilities. Division 1 work is planned for City Hall located at 4200 Mills Civic Parkway, the Library located at 4000 Mills Civic Parkway, and the public parking lot located in the 200 block of Valley Junction west of the alley between 5th Street and 6th Street. Division 2 work is planned for Raccoon River Park access drive located between Grand Avenue and Jordan Creek.
Project Status as of 07/01/2026: Stage one of the improvements of the 6th Street parking lot are complete. The contractor has moved on the second stage of the repairs, closing the north half of the parking lot for improvements.
Contractors have completed repairs on the northernmost access road of Raccoon River Park and it is now open to all traffic. The frontage road between City Hall and the Library, and the library parking lot are also complete. Crews will return at a later date for restoration and site cleanup.

Project Overview: This project includes durable pavement markings and on-street bike markings (sharrows) at various locations throughout the City of West Des Moines. Due to the build-up of paint on the on-street bike markings over the years, approximately 50% of the 1,019 markings will be water-blasted and repainted with this project. Repainting of the remaining 50% of the on-street bike markings will still be included with this project, with water-blasting and repainting to occur with next year’s program.
Project Status as of 07/01/2026: Work on this project is roughly 85% complete.

Final restoration across all sites is ongoing.

Project Overview: This project consists of the installation of new 10' wide concrete trail that connects from the northwest side of the 1st Street (Highway 28) bridge over the Raccoon River north to Lincoln Street, connecting to the Levee Trail. Project also includes a new, 10' wide trail that parallels the 1st Street River Access entrance drive from 1st street to the parking lot.
Project Status (Updated 7/6/26): The concrete trail paving is complete and open for public use. Site seeding and restoration activities will resume in later summer/early fall to complete the project.

Skate Park Contractor: Spohn Ranch
Project Overview: After many years of use, the skate ramp structures at Crossroads Park are no longer serviceable and were removed by city staff. A professional skatepark design company, Spohn Ranch was utilized for design and community engagement as part of the design process. A new all-concrete skate facility was the resulting proposed project. The recreational trail to the north is being adjusted slightly to make a bit more space for the skate facility.
Project Status (Updated 7/6/26): The skate park construction is well underway with concrete being poured. The remaining concrete work is planned to be complete by the end of July with the new concrete trail work to follow. All work is planned to be complete before school starts up in August.
A community engagement open house event was held on January 22, 2026 from 4:30pm - 6:30pm at the Valley Junction Activity Center (217 5th St, West Des Moines, IA 50265) and an online survey was available to gather feedback from the community on the two concepts presented. Based on that feedback, Spohn Ranch is working on a single, consolidated concept which will be available for public review when ready.

Contractor: Concrete Connection, LLC
Project Overview: This project consists of a new concrete trail connection from Scenic Valley Dr. south into Scenic Valley Park along the east side of the drainage channel, connecting to the existing asphalt-paved loop trail. This trail connection not only provides better access to the park from the west, but also provides dedicated maintenance access for City Staff.
Project Status (Updated 7/6/26): The contractor has completed the trail paving work and the trail is open for public use. Site seeding and restoration is planned to be completed later in the summer as the weather allows.

Contractor: Concrete Connection LLC
Project Overview: This project consists of the asphalt resurfacing of the following park courts: Maple Grove Park tennis and basketball (includes new hoops), Wild Rose Park basketball (includes new hoops), Valley View Park tennis and basketball. Valley View's Pickleball Courts will also receive some crack sealing. The sand volleyball courts at Valley View will also see some improvements to help control sand erosion and the cricket pitch in the open field will be enlarged to accommodate play use.
Project Status (Updated 7/6/26): Construction activities are mostly complete with all court facilities open to the public. Remaining punch list items and site seeding and restoration activities are remaining to be performed when weather allows. Thanks for your patience as we improve our parks!

Contractor: Munro Construction Company
Project Overview: Work will include construction of an open-air shelter with restroom facilities, a small maintenance building to store field maintenance and programming equipment, and a pair of dedicated outdoor cricket practice cages. The shelter and restroom building will be located immediately east of the pickleball court complex. The maintenance building will be located just north of the tennis courts and the cricket practice cages will be located on the NE corner of the central lawn area.
Project Status: Contract has mobilized to site and started construction.

Contractor: MB Lawncare LLC
Project Overview: This project consists of construction of a 12-foot wide reinforced PCC trail
from Stagecoach Drive north approximately 2,100 ft to the end of the Courts at Kings Landing Development. Associated work will include two short sidewalk connections to the Kings Landing neighborhood to the west, bench seating locations and final site restoration consisting of native grasses and mowed turf grass.
Project Status: Contractor has completed grading and utilities. Paving of trail is anticipated to begin week of September 15.

Contractor: Play-Pro Recreation Inc.
Project Overview: We are replacing the playground equipment and the shade structure at the Raccoon River Park Softball Complex. We expect the new playground and shade to be ready for use by early June.
Project Status: We have finished removing the old playground and shade cover. Our next steps include installing a new drainage system, safety surfacing, the new play equipment, and the fabric shade structure.
We expect everything to be finished and ready for use by late spring or early summer.
