Zoning Information

The Zoning Ordinance (Title 9 of the City Code) sets the rules for land use in West Des Moines. It defines where different types of buildings can go and how tall or dense they can be.

What is in the Zoning Ordinance?

You can use the Ordinance to find rules for:

  • Allowed uses for each district
  • Building setbacks and density
  • Performance standards and parking
  • Accessory structures (like fences and garages)
  • Sign requirements

Find the Zoning for Your Property

Follow these steps to find the zoning for a specific address using our Interactive Zoning Map:

  1. Open the map and find the Map Layers menu.
  2. Check the box next to Zoning and click Refresh Map.
  3. Use the Search tool on the left to enter an address.
  4. Use the Identify tool and click on the property to see its zoning details.
