The Building Division ensures our city is safe by reviewing construction plans and performing on-site inspections. We work to make sure all buildings meet safety codes and city ordinances.
Electronic Submission Required!
- Residential applications are all available on the City Access Portal (CAP).
- Commercial and Multi-family application packets are available thru our Commercial Applications page and these will need to be emailed to bi@wdm.iowa.gov.
- We do not accept paper submittals or documents without prior approval.
Construction Inspections
Your Responsibility: Contractors and property owners must receive inspection approval before covering any work or occupying their buildings.
- To schedule an inspection call 515-222-3630.
- If you have registered for a portal account and you are an active Contact on a permit, you may request inspections thru your account at the WDM City Access Portal.
- Cold Weather Concrete Pouring: during the winter months please review the Cold Weather Concrete Policy before beginning your project.
Rental Inspections
Property owners must provide safe housing and keep their rental certificates up to date.
- Questions: Email the rental team at rent@wdm.iowa.gov.
- Expired Certificates: If your certificate has expired, call 515-222-3630 immediately to schedule an inspection.
Reports & Notifications
- Monthly Permit Reports: Go to Building Permit Reports.
- Stay Updated: Sign up for eNotifications to receive permit reports and City news by email.
