The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that hears and decides on specific exceptions to the City's zoning laws. The Board ensures that zoning ordinances are applied fairly while considering unique property circumstances.
What We Do
The Board is responsible for reviewing and ruling on the following:
- Conditional Use Permits: Requests for land uses that require special review.
- Variances: Requests for exceptions to setback requirements, sign codes, or building additions.
- Administrative Appeals: Hearings for property owners who disagree with how the City has interpreted a zoning code.
Members
The Board consists of five West Des Moines residents appointed by the Mayor to serve five-year terms.
