The purpose of the West Des Moines Radon Mitigation Program is to test homes and mitigate radon hazards to make safer living environments for residents.

 

 Program Eligibility 

  • Home must be within city limits of West Des Moines.
  • The total household annual gross income must be no more than 80% of the area median income, adjusted for household size as shown in the table below.

  • Home can be a rental or owner-occupied.
  • Home can be single-family, duplex, or townhouse.
  • Owner must be current on their mortgage, property taxes, have home insurance, and be current with any city issues and/or any City fines. If the property is a rental, the owner must have a valid rental certificate.

Financing 

  • Each home is eligible for up to $5,000 of funds. The funds shall be applied to radon pre-testing, post-testing, and mitigation improvements.
  • The funds will be in the form of a grant. The grant is NOT reimbursable. A household must apply for the program, be approved, and use designated contractors for improvements.

The Radon Mitigation Program will begin accepting applications January 15, 2025.
