Community and Economic Development

The Community & Economic Development Department is comprised of staff in two divisions - Economic Development and Housing.

Economic Development

The Economic Development Division within the City of West Des Moines Community and Economic Development Department leads the City's economic growth. Staff in the division help businesses of all sizes expand, recruit new companies to the area, and market West Des Moines nationally. Our goals are to create a diverse range of jobs, grow the local tax base, and negotiate development agreements that benefit the community. The 2026 Economic Development Strategic Action Plan guides these efforts.

Housing

The Housing Division within the City of West Des Moines Community and Economic Development Department works to expand housing opportunities, preserve existing neighborhoods, and increase access to safe, quality, and attainable housing. Through federal, state, and local funding, the division administers housing assistance programs, supports affordable housing development, and leads neighborhood revitalization efforts that strengthen the community.
