Non-Moving Traffic Violations (Parking Tickets)

If you have received a non-moving traffic violation in West Des Moines, you have three secure ways to pay your fine. Please ensure your payment is made promptly to avoid additional penalties.

How to Pay Your Ticket

You can choose the method that is most convenient for you:

  1. Online: Pay quickly and securely through our Online Payment Portal. You can also scan the QR code located directly on your citation.
  2. By Mail: Send a check or money order payable to the City of West Des Moines. Please include your ticket number and do not send cash through the mail.
  3. In Person: Visit West Des Moines City Hall at 4200 Mills Civic Parkway. Payments are accepted weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the window immediately to your left inside the main entrance.

How to Contest a Ticket

If you believe a ticket was issued in error, you have the right to contest it. Please follow these requirements:

  • Timeline: You must file your intent to contest no sooner than 5 days and no later than 30 days from the date the ticket was issued.
  • Process: You must appear in person at City Hall (address above) to file a written Notice to Contest.
  • Next Steps: Once filed, a trial date will be scheduled with a Magistrate in Polk County. Please be aware that court costs may be applied if the court finds the citation valid.

Habitual Violations

Under the West Des Moines City Code, vehicles owned by an individual with four or more delinquent parking citations are subject to impoundment. If a vehicle is impounded, all towing and storage fees are the responsibility of the owner.
