The City of West Des Moines is excited to announce a new partnership with Casey’s that will bring the Casey’s Ice Rink to the new City of West Des Moines Event Center at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex.
As part of the agreement, Casey’s has committed $1 million to support the Event Center expansion and will receive naming rights to the new ice rink. The partnership represents another significant private investment in the transformational expansion of the RecPlex and continues the strong tradition of public-private partnerships that helped make the original facility possible.
“We are incredibly grateful to Casey’s for making this investment in West Des Moines and in the future of the RecPlex,” said Tom Hadden, West Des Moines City Manager. “The success of the RecPlex has been built on strong partnerships between the city, our business community and organizations that recognize the value these amenities bring to our residents and the entire region. Casey’s is a tremendous Iowa success story, and we are proud to have their name associated with this new ice sheet for years to come.”

The Casey’s Ice Rink will be located within the new Event Center currently under construction at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex. The expansion will add a multipurpose arena capable of seating approximately 3,000 spectators for sporting events and will provide additional opportunities for hockey, figure skating, tournaments, concerts, conventions, community events and other large-scale gatherings.
The addition of a third ice sheet will also significantly expand RecPlex’s ability to serve local and regional ice users while attracting larger tournaments and national events to West Des Moines.
The MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex opened in 2021 and has quickly become a regional destination for youth and adult sports, tournaments, recreational programming and special events. The Event Center expansion will build upon that success by increasing the facility’s capacity to host larger sporting and entertainment events while providing additional recreational opportunities for residents.
Construction of the Event Center is currently underway, with completion anticipated in fall 2027. Additional details regarding Casey’s branding and signage within the Event Center will be developed collaboratively by Casey’s and the City as construction progresses.
