By the end of this week, Census workers should be out on the streets knocking on doors in West Des Moines for the City’s partial Special Census!
If you received mailings from the U.S. Census Bureau to participate and you didn’t complete the questionnaire online, a Census Field Representative will knock on your door and ask you to answer each question so that a completed questionnaire can be recorded for your household.
By law, all the information you share is confidential, and the data that is gathered will help determine how funding flows into states and communities each year. No personal information is ever disclosed by the Census Bureau.
If someone visits your home to collect a response, they should have a valid ID badge that includes their name, photograph, a Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date. Field representatives will conduct their work on weekdays and weekends between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
The Census Bureau will never ask for:
- Your Social Security number
- Money or donations
- Anything on behalf of a political party
- Your bank account or credit card numbers
The Census historically has been considered a patriotic duty that helps the federal government meet the needs of our communities.
