The City of West Des Moines is partnering with Jordan Creek Town Center starting in 2026 to take the July 4th celebration to a whole new level.

Mayor Russ Trimble said that since 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, City officials decided it was time to up their game.

“Next year gives us the perfect opportunity to offer residents something fresh and new with our July 4th celebration,” he said. “We have a great tradition going in our city, and we’re always looking for ways to improve the experience so everyone has a great time,” he said.

Additional details about the 2026 celebration will be announced next year, including the addition of an annual concert at Jordan Creek Town Center that will kick off the festivities before the fireworks.

“We are honored to host the City’s 4th of July Celebration,” said Randy Tennison, Senior General Manager of Jordan Creek Town Center. “Our goal is to continue providing a high-quality and impactful experience for the entire community — one that brings people together and celebrates what makes West Des Moines such a special place.”

Fireworks on the City Campus
For safety reasons, the fireworks display was moved five years ago from Raccoon River Park to the City Campus by the West Des Moines Public Library and City Hall. “In 2020, during COVID, we made the decision to move because overcrowding and social distancing were becoming growing problems at Raccoon River Park,” Trimble said.

The City Campus has been a popular site for celebrations and fireworks for years, dating back to when fireworks were included during Illumifest in 2008. Trimble also noted that fireworks have occurred at Valley Stadium after Des Moines Menace soccer games.
