UPDATE: All closures have been extended through December 10 to make them consistent with the Governor's most recent proclamation. The closures were originally scheduled through December 2.
Due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Polk and Dallas Counties, City officials are closing certain parks and recreation facilities and canceling all indoor recreation programs, events and rentals from November 16 – December 10.
Officials will reevaluate closures and cancellations during the week of December 7 to determine whether they need to be extended beyond December 10.
Recreation Programs/Events (Indoor) – All indoor events and programs will be cancelled from 11/16 - 12/10. Pro-rated refunds will be given to those already registered. Entire sessions will be cancelled for those programs extending past 12/10.
Recreation Programs/Events (Outdoor) – Winter's Eve at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater is still planned to take place on 11/30. With over 100 people pre-registered, masks will be required for all attendees over the age of 2 years per Governor Kim Reynold’s Proclamation issued on November 10, 2020. Modifications to the original program may be needed.
Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge – Will be closed to all walk-in traffic on 11/16. All rentals will be cancelled from 11/16 - 12/10, and full refunds will be given. Dog Park & Archery Facility permits may be purchased by phone by calling the Nature Lodge at (515) 222-3424 or by visiting City Hall, which remains open to the public. Masks are strongly encouraged.
Valley Junction Activity Center – Public restrooms will remain open, but the activity center will be closed to all other walk-in traffic on 11/16. All rentals will be cancelled from 11/16 - 12/10, and full refunds will be given. Public restrooms will be open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. every day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday and the day after Thanksgiving, plus Thursday evenings for Jingle in the Junction.
Parks and Trails – All parks and trails remain open to the public.
