West Des Moines Police investigate shooting incidents

04/16/20 04:45 P.M.

On 04/16/20 at approximately 12:29 hours, Westcom Communications alerted officers to a shots fired called in the 500blk of Valley West Drive. While officers were in route, Westcom advised officers of another shots fired call at Quik Trip, 1400 22nd Street. 

When the first responding officer arrived at Quik Trip, a male exited the west doors holding a firearm. The officer confronted the male verbally at which time the male shot himself. The male was subsequently transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. 

During the course of this incident, no shots were fired by officers. Several vehicles were shot by the suspect but no injuries were reported. 

Officers from the Clive Police Department and Urbandale Police Department responded to the scene and assisted in the investigation. 

This is an active investigation at this time. Further updates will be published at mid-morning on 04/17/20. The name of the suspect involved in this incident is not being released at this time.
