American Legion Park is one of the oldest and most beautiful parks in West Des Moines. Located at the corner of 4th Street and Vine Street in Historic Valley Junction, this oasis is a favorite for sprayground-loving kids of all ages and abilities. Mature trees shade the shuffleboard and horseshoe courts at the northeast corner of the 9.93-acre park.

Facilities include:

• Rentable picnic shelter with grill
• Restrooms (open April 15 - October 15, weather permitting)
• Play equipment (2 to 5-year-old and 5 to 12-year-old areas)
• Large open playfield
• Softball field with skinned infield and backstop
• Sprayground Open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10AM to 7PM, weather permitting. To conserve water, the sprays are activated by users during open hours. There is a button that activates the sprays in 10-minute intervals.
