Park hours are from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm daily.

All visitors are expected to adhere to the regulations established in the West Des Moines City Code while enjoying our facilities and trails.

Water Conservation Notice

In support of Central Iowa Water Works’ request to reduce water usage due to elevated nitrate levels, we are taking proactive steps to cut back. Starting May 29, American Legion Park Sprayground will be open from 11 am–7 pm daily. This is a voluntary step to help protect our water supply, and we greatly appreciate your understanding. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Cool off this summer at the American Legion Park Sprayground! This neighborhood favorite offers a fun way for families to enjoy the outdoors. To help us conserve water and keep kids moving, the fountain runs on a timer system.

How to Play

To start the water, simply push the arrow in the center of the pedestal with one finger.

  • The water will run for a random cycle of 2 to 8 minutes.
  • Once it stops, just push the button again to start a new cycle!
  • Note: The button is designed to be firm to ensure parental supervision and prevent the water from running when no one is playing.
