Willow Springs Park, opened in 1999, is an 8-acre neighborhood park serving the communities of Westridge and Ponderosa Valley. The park includes a .38-mile trail loop which connects to the larger Westridge Greenway Trail. The updated play equipment is known for its cheerful hot air balloon theme. Accessible features provide play opportunities for all ages and abilities.
A unique feature is the bioswale which runs along the northern edge of the park. The bioswale was designed to capture debris and sediment while moving clean stormwater runoff eastward into a large stormwater basin. There, remaining pollutants are filtered out of the stormwater before it is released into Ponderosa Creek. Landscaping methods like this help protect the health of fish and wildlife populations in the greater Des Moines watershed.
