Parks & Trails

Park hours are from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm daily.

All visitors are expected to adhere to the regulations established in the West Des Moines City Code while enjoying our facilities and trails.

Railroad Park may be West Des Moines’ smallest park, but it is undoubtedly one of its most vibrant. Located in the heart of Historic Valley Junction, this special-use facility serves as a community gathering spot for thousands of visitors each year.

Music in the Junction: Every Thursday evening throughout the summer, Railroad Park transforms into a concert venue! It proudly hosts the "Music in the Junction" series held in conjunction with the Valley Junction Farmers Market.

With its period-accurate lighting and unique landscaping, Railroad Park captures the historic spirit of the district:

  • Historic Caboose: A real, restored train caboose that serves as a landmark for the park's railroad heritage.
  • Picnic Shelter: A central shelter available to rent for special events and private gatherings.
  • Public Art: Home to the Our Main Street and Rising From the Prairie community art pieces.
  • Parking: A dedicated onsite parking lot for easy access to the park and surrounding shops.
