Ashawa Park marks the historic heart of the former Ashawa township. Today, it offers one of the most scenic views in West Des Moines, overlooking the City and School campus from a beautifully designed picnic shelter.

Park Features & Amenities

  • Picnic Shelter: An architecturally unique shelter with a grill, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Playground: A safe, engaging, and inclusive space for a range of ages with new rubberized safety surfacing.
  • Trails & Nature: Direct connection to the Ashawa Greenway Trail and a beautiful reconstructed shortgrass prairie.
  • Active Play: A non-lighted basketball court, a large open playfield, and a softball backstop.
