South Grand Prairie Parkway

Project Overview:  Construct S. Grand Prairie Parkway from SW Madison Avenue to Raccoon River Drive including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately: 2,400 LF of sanitary sewer, 6,190 LF of storm sewer with 37 structures, 6,925 LF of   24-inch water main including an encased river crossing, 462,170 CY of grading, 23,670 SY of PCC pavement and bridge approach, a 538-ft x 30-ft pretensioned prestressed concrete beam bridge with a 12-ft trail, 55 ACRES of surface restoration, erosion control including 9,940 TON of riprap, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

 

Project Status:  They have completed the sub structure, set all beams and poured the deck for the bridge over Raccoon River.  All water main and storm sewer lines have been installed.  They have completed the concrete encased utility crossing under the river for sanitary sewer and water main.  They are preparing for paving the week of July 16th.

Ashworth Road Phase I Reconstruction

Project Overview:  Construction of the Ashworth Road from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street including 6,000 CY of Topsoil, 13,800 CY of Excavation, 7,000 CY of Below Grade Excavation (Core Out), 19,750 SY of Subgrade Preparation.  2,864 LF of Storm Sewer, 29 Storm Sewer Intakes and 4 Storm Sewer Manholes.  2,713 LF of Subdrain, Subdrain Outlets and Connections.  204 LF of Water Main and Fittings.  23 LF of Sanitary Sewer and 1 sanitary sewer manhole.  800 SY of 6 inch Non-Reinforced PCC, 920 SY of 6 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 218 SY of 7 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 17,460 SY of 9.5 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 2,496 SY of PCC Driveway, 2,427 SY of PCC Shared Use Path, and pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals.  And other miscellaneous work including Clearing and Grubbing, Traffic Control, Construction Survey, Erosion Control, Pavement Markings, Seeding, Fixture Adjustments and other Miscellaneous Removals.

 

Project Status:  

Ashworth Road is closed from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street.  All sanitary and storm sewer work was completed last fall. Residents who live on Ashworth Road will have access but no through traffic will be possible.  The contractor has paved the two north lanes and will begin work on the south two lanes.

Ashworth Road Phase II Reconstruction Estimated Start:  Spring 2018

Project Overview:  Construction of the Ashworth Road from 81st Street to 88th Street including 9,200CY of Topsoil, 7,800 CY of Excavation, 35,100 CY of Contractor Supplied Borrow, 7,000 CY of Below Grade Excavation (Core Out), 24,452 SY of Subgrade Preparation.  4,282 LF of Storm Sewer, 37 Storm Sewer Intakes and 6 Storm Sewer Manholes.  3,467 LF of Subdrain, Subdrain Outlets and Connections. 2,730 LF of Water Main and Fittings.  192 SY of 7 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 664 SY of 8 inch PCC Pavement, 22,174 SY of 9.5 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 2,382 SY of PCC Driveway, 3,231 SY of PCC Shared Use Path, and pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals.  156 LF of Twin 8’x5’ Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert.  And other miscellaneous work including Clearing and Grubbing, Traffic Control, Construction Survey, Erosion Control, Pavement Markings, Seeding, Fixture Adjustments and other Miscellaneous Removals.

 

Project Status:  Ashworth Road is closed from 88th Street to 81st Street.  The intersection of Ashworth Road and 88th Street is closed until mid-August.  The contractor has completed the box culvert construction and the tree cutting.  They are also installing water main and storm sewer east of 84th Street.  They are grading between 88th Street and 84th Street.

COACHLIGHT DRIVE (s 81ST sTREET TO sOUTH jORDAN cREEK pARKWAY) Estimated Start:  Fall 2017

Project Overview:  Construction of Coachlight Drive and S 77th St, including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 12,968 SY of PCC paving, 20,150 CY of excavation, 4929 LF of storm sewer, 2941 LF of sanitary sewer, and 3718 LF of water main. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor completed the water main, storm sewer and sanitary sewer installation.  They are in the process of paving the roadways.

Maple Grove Lift Station Estimated Start:  Spring 2018

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2018

Contractor:  Absolute Infrastructure

 

Project Overview:  Construct Maple Grove Lift Station including all labor, material and equipment necessary to construct approximately 2,684 linear feet of 18-inch sewer in open cut, 220 linear feet of 18-inch sanitary sewer tunneled in place, 1,410 linear feet of 12-inch force main, lift station, excavation, backfill, manholes, connections to existing sewer, surface restoration, traffic control and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.

 

Project Status:  The tree cutting is complete.  The contractor is working on setting structures at the lift station and installing sewer main at the west end of the project.  The road bore under Ashworth Road is complete.

2017 Sewer Rehabilitation program

Estimated Start:  Spring 2018

Estimated Completion:  June 2018

Contractor:  Hydro-Klean

 

Project Overview:  Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining of approximately 8,647 linear feet of eight-inch (8”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 1,529 linear feet of ten-inch (10”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 361 linear feet of twelve-inch (12”) diameter sanitary sewer, and approximately 410 linear feet of eighteen-inch (18”) diameter sanitary sewer and other miscellaneous associated work.  Project also includes excavation and repair of one (1) sanitary sewer pipe on 44th Street.  Work includes 23 SY of pavement removal and replacement, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work.   

 

Project Status:  The contractor began cleaning the lines that will be lined with the project.  You may receive a door hanger from Accu-Jet as they are cleaning the sewer lines as a sub-contractor to Hydro-Klean.  Hydro-Klean is in progress lining sewers at various locations.

2017 Sewer Cleaniing & Televising Program

Estimated Start:  March 2018

Contractor:  Visu-Sewer

 

Project Overview:  Type A Cleaning & Televising of approximately 60,000 linear feet of eight inch (8”) through thirty-six inch (36”) diameter Sanitary Sewer, Type C Root Removal of approximately 4,200 linear feet of eight inch (8”) through twenty-four inch (24”) diameter Sanitary Sewer, Cutting of any Protruding Taps, and other miscellaneous associated work.

 

Project Status:  Visu-Sewer is in progress of cleaning sewers at various locations.

2017 Intake Repair Program

Project Overview:  Removal and replacement of 32 intake structures at various locations in the City of West Des Moines, pavement patching, traffic control, and miscellaneous related work. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor is in progress building intakes at various locations.

Raccoon river drive rcb culvert

Estimated Start:  April 2018

Contractor:  Shekar Engineering

 

Project Overview:  Construction of an 80’ triple 12’-0” x 8’-0” reinforced concrete box culvert under Raccoon River Drive at Rolling Hills Creek.  The contractor has the option of submitting a bid for either a precast or cast-in-place option. Project includes all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to remove existing structure, construct new roadway pavement, granular shoulders, excavation, backfill, erosion control, and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has re-opened Raccoon River Drive at the location of the box culvert work.  Additional work will be done under traffic thru mid-July.

Walnut creek outfall project

Estimated Start:  March 2018

Project Overview:  Plan Set 1 - 949 LF of 12-ft by 5-ft reinforced box culvert, 457 LF of storm sewer and culverts, 225 LF of water main, associated grading, 727 SY of PCC pavement, 183 SY of sidewalk driveway pavement, surface restoration, erosion control including 585 TON of erosion stone and riprap, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

Plan Set 2-  shoring, dewatering, excavation, backfilling, levee restoration, reinforced cast-in-place concrete necessary to construct the pump station, controls building, discharge chamber, and intake chamber; pumping unit lift tubes and formed suction intakes, ductile iron discharge piping and fittings, 54-in and 30-in flap gates, 12-ft by 5-ft cast iron and stainless steel sluice gates with electric actuators, sump pump and associated discharge piping, flap valves, other valves and fittings; pressure transducer, floats, HVAC systems, trash gates, access hatches, grates, catwalks, ladders, railings, manhole steps, access platforms, stairs with gate, davit crane, stop logs; electrical work including pump control panels, power distribution, lighting, electrical service and connection, control room fit out, switchgear lineup with empty cubicles for future soft-starters, MCC primary/emergency service entry sections, MCC sections for panels/transformer/starter, emergency power connection box and cables, communications, PLC,  manufacturer representative services including certification and testing of equipment, adjustments, training of Owner’s staff and production and submission of equipment operation and maintenance manuals and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

Plan Set 3- grading, 2,667 SY of subgrade preparation, 2,324 SY of paving and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

Plan Set 4 – removal of 110 LF of sanitary sewer and manhole, 407 SY of paving, 111 SY sidewalk, erosion control, surface restoration, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

 

Project Status:  The project is located on 1st Street/63rd Street just south of Grand Avenue.  The contractor started work on the project in early March.  They have cleared trees from the project corridor.  The box culvert has been completed under the roadway and the road is open to traffic.   There will be ongoing work on the pump station through the remainder of 2018 under lane closures but traffic will be able to get through the construction area.

Veterans Parkway Project, SE Maffitt Lake Road to SE Adams Street

Estimated Start:  May 2018

Project Overview:  This project is generally described as the extension of Veteran’s Parkway from SE Maffitt Lake Road to approximately 1000 feet southwest of Adams Street.  This project includes approximately 30,000 SY of reinforced portland cement concrete paving, earthwork, storm sewer, water main, construction survey, surface restoration, traffic control, and other miscellaneous work needed to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed clearing and grubbing of the corridor.  Mass grading is in progress.

Project Status:  The contractor has completed clearing and grubbing of the corridor.  Mass grading is in progress.

Mills Civic Parkway Widening South Jordan creek parkway to South 81st Street

Project Overview:  

This project is generally described as the widening of Mills Civic Parkway from South 81st Street to Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.  This project includes approximately 17,500 SY of reinforced portland cement concrete paving, excavation, storm sewer, construction survey, landscaping, surface restoration, traffic signal modification, and other miscellaneous work needed to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is grading the site and preparing for paving the roadway towards the end of June.

2018 PCC Reconstruction Project (3rd Street)

Estimated Start:  May 2018

Estimated Completion:  August 2018

Contractor:  Alliance Construction

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 2,967 square yard (SY) of pavement removal, 2967 SY of 6" P.C.C. pavement with integral curb, 3420 SY of subgrade preparation, 3420 SY of granular subbase, 1099 SY of driveway pavement, 432 linear feet (LF) of storm sewer, 1241 LF of sub drain, drainage structures, fixture adjustments, miscellaneous grading, sod restoration, survey, traffic control, and other associated work.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has closed 3rd Street and will pave the 500 block on June 29th.  Each block should take about 6 weeks to complete.

2018 HMA Resurfacing Estimated Start:  Late May 2018

Project Overview:  This project will resurface various locations in the City of West Des Moines. Types of work including approximately 4,944 tons of HMA HT ½” intermediate course, 4,992 tons of HMA HT ½” surface course, 48,614 square yards of surface milling, 35,322 linear feet of crack cleaning and filling , 2,747 square yards of PCC full depth patching, 716 square yards of PCC 5-Hour Mix full depth patching, 769 square yards of PCC sidewalk, 1,039 linear feet of PCC curb and gutter, 185 square yards of HMA full depth patching, 50 square yards of HMA partial depth patching, fixture adjustments, pavement markings, traffic control, and miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed Westown Parkway between 22nd Street and 19th Street.  They are also working on Westown Parkway between Valley West Drive and 31st Street. They plan to pave that section the week of July 9th.

They will start work on Valley West Drive between Ashworth Road and EP True Parkway the week of July 9th.  Below are notices and maps that were mailed to the residents.

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 1016 square yard (SY) of sidewalk/trail removal, 377 SY of 6” P.C.C. sidewalk, 557 SY of 4" P.C.C. sidewalk, 36 SY of P.C.C. reinforced trail, 1044 linear feet (LF) of P.C.C. curb and gutter, 784 square feet (SF) of detectable warnings, 75 cubic yards (CY) of excavation, fixture adjustments, miscellaneous grading, restoration, traffic control, and other associated work.  

 

Project Status:  The contractor is working on ramps at various locations.

Project Overview:  The project will include construction of two right turn lanes and associated work. A southbound right turn lane will be constructed along South 51st Street at the intersection of Mills Civic Parkway. A westbound right turn lane will be constructed along Mills Civic Parkway at the intersection of the south entrance to the Jordan Creek Town Center approximately 900' west of S 68th Street.  Turn lane construction will include modifications to the existing storm sewer, traffic signal modifications, sidewalk reconstruction, and surface restoration.

 

Project Status:  The contract was recently awarded and the work is scheduled to start in mid-July.

Intersection Improvements, S. Jordan Creek Pkwy & Mills Civic pkwy / s. jordan creek pkwy & coachlight dr

Project Overview:  The project will include construction of two turn lanes and associated work. A westbound right turn lane will be constructed along Mills Civic Parkway at the intersection of Jordan Creek Parkway. A southbound right turn lane will be constructed along Jordan Creek Parkway at the intersection of Coachlight Drive.  Each turn lane construction will include modifications to existing storm sewer, traffic signal modifications, sidewalk reconstruction, and surface restoration.

 

Project Status:  The contractor plans to start on July 2nd on Jordan Creek Parkway and will take about 3 weeks per turn lane to complete.

39TH STREET PARKING LOT

Project Overview:  Construction of a 45-stall parking lot with two access drives off of 39th Street. The parking lot will serve as a trail head for Jordan Creek Trail as well as serve as overflow parking for the Rugby Club located across the street. RACCOON RIVER PARK PORTABLE TOILET ENCLOSURES & PICNIC SHELTER Estimated Start:   Summer 2017

Project Overview:  Construction of enclosures to screen (3) portable toilets located throughout Raccoon River Park. In addition, project also includes installation of a small picnic shelter near the Fishing Pier. Other associated items include concrete slabs, sidewalks, footings, and site restoration.

2017 Asphalt TRAIL RENOVATION - KNOLLS GREENWAY TRAIL Estimated Start:   Spring 2018

Project Overview:  Renovation of a ¼ mile section of asphalt trail located in Knolls Greenway between Aspen Drive and Ashworth Road. Project will include full depth on-site recycling of the existing trail to act as base for a new 3" HMA overlay. Other associated item include pavement removals, new sidewalk and pedestrian ramps with detectable warning panels, traffic control, and site restoration (seeding).

 

Project Status: Project is substantially complete and trail is open to the public. Remaining punchlist items including seeding will be completed in the Fall.

WOODLAND HILLS PARK TENNIS & BASKETBALL COURTS Estimated Start:   Spring 2018

Project Overview:  Construction of an asphalt basketball and tennis court at Woodland Hills Park.  The courts are to be constructed just north of the existing playground, shelter and restroom area. The tennis court will be constructed to also accommodate pickleball.

 

Project Status: Project is substantially complete and courts are open to the public. Final site restoration including seeding of the site will be completed in the Fall.

WOODLAND HILLS PARK LOOP TRAIL

Project Overview:  Construction of a 10' wide concrete trail around the perimeter of Woodland Hills Park.  Portions of the trail loop have been completed with other park projects along the southern and western side of the park, and this project would complete the loop. 

 

Project Status: A preconstruction meeting with the contractor has been completed. Contractor is tentatively planning on starting construction in early August and anticipates completing project in two weeks.

2018 CONCRETE TRAIL RENOVATION PROJECT Estimated Start:   Spring 2018

Project Overview:  Repair and replacement of portions of existing concrete trail located primarily along Westown Parkway between Interstate 80/35 and Jordan Creek Parkway. A portion along 60th Street near University Ave will also be repaired. The areas being addressed were identified based on the City's yearly trail inspection program.

 

Project Status: Project is substantially complete. Any remaining site restoration will be completed in the Fall.

HOLIDAY PARK PARKING LOT REPAIRS Estimated Start:   Spring 2018

Project Overview:   Repair and replacement of portions of existing concrete parking lot paving located in Holiday Park.  Portions of the repairs will be done this spring prior to opening of the Holiday Park Aquatic Center, with other repairs later this fall after the pool and ballfield season has concluded. 

 

 Project Status: Phase 1 of the project consisting of concrete patches mainly around the aquatic center has been completed including backfilling and seeding. Contractor will return in the Fall after aquatic center closes to complete Phase 2.

FAIRMEADOWS PARK WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS

Contractor:  Apex Companies
Project Overview:    Project consists of installation of multiple water quality improvements at Fairmeadows Park including the construction of a bioswale to manage stormwater from the parking lot, soil quality restoration to improve the turf and permeability at the open playing fields, compost grouting of rip rap along the streambank of the creek, and native wetland plantings.  The City will also be providing educational signage explaining the project.

Funding for the project is being provided through a combination of City funds and a grant from Polk County intended for improving water quality near the Walnut Creek Watershed.

 

Project Status: Project is substantially complete. Educational signage describing the improvements have been ordered and will be installed onsite as soon as they arrive.

VALLEY VIEW PARK SHELTER, RESTROOM AND SAND VOLLEYBALL COURTS Estimated Start:   Summer 2018
Estimated Completion:  Fall 2018
Contractor:  Core Structural Services
Project Overview:  Project includes construction of an open-air shelter, restroom facility, (3)  lighted sand volleyball courts, and associated site and utility improvements located on the southwest side of Valley View Park (88th Street side). 

 

Project Status:  A preconstruction meeting has been completed and the contractor has mobilized to the site. Contractor will be working on grading and completing utility work over the next several weeks.
