South 50th Street Improvements

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2016

Contractor:  Absolute Concrete

 

Project Overview:  The South 50th Street project will include grading, utilities, and paving the roadway from Mills Civic Parkway to EP True Parkway.

 

Project Status:  South 50th Street is open from Mills Civic Parkway to EP True Parkway.  The contractor has substantially completed the project.  They will do a project walk through and review all items.  A punch list will be generated over the next few weeks and the contractor will address any minor issues at that time.  The contractor has sprayed the new seeding to eliminate weeds.  This fall the seeding will reviewed and redone as needed

South 60th Street Improvements phase I & II

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Concrete Technologies

 

Project Overview:  Reconstruction of South 60th Street from Grand Avenue to Mills Civic Parkway.  

 

Project Status:  

South 60th Street is closed between Mills Civic Parkway and Booneville Road.  On Phase I the contractor is grading, performing site restoration.  This fall the seeding will reviewed and redone as needed.

The contractor is installing watermain on the Phase II. Once the watermain is complete the contractor will begin the storm sewer installation on Phase II.  The contractor plans to pave the mainline sections of the roadway in August.  The project should be complete this fall.

South 88th Street Improvements

Estimated Start:  Spring 2016

Estimated Completion:  Unknown

Contractor:  Hawkeye Paving

 

Project Overview:  The South 88th Street reconstruction project will include grading, utilities, and paving the roadway.

 

Project Status:  South 88th Street and Booneville Road are open.  When Century Link removes their equipment from the intersection of South 88th Street and Booneville Road the City contractor will finish the paving.  A timeline for that work is undetermined at this time.

Fox Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase II 

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall/Winter 2016

Contractor:  Raccoon River Valley

 

Project Overview:  The Fox Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 2 is a continuation of the Fox Creek Trunk Sewer project begun in 2015.  This segment will extend sewer from the northern terminus of the Fox Creek Trunk Phase 1 Sewer to the intersection of 98th Street and Ashworth Road. 

 

Project Status:  

The contractor has completed 95% of the project.

Stagecoach drive extension over sugar creek

Estimated Start:  April 2016

Estimated Completion: September 2017

Contractor:  United Contractors

 

Project Overview:   This projects consists of building the bridge on Stagecoach Drive over Sugar Creek.  The size of the bridge is 135’x30’. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor is driving piling and pouring abutments.  They have completed the channel shaping and lining.  They will be installing a water main under Sugar Creek as part of the project.

Stagecoach Drive Extension 

Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  October 2017

Contractor:  McAninch Corporation

 

Project Overview:   This project will connect Stagecoach Drive from South 93rd Street to South 88th Street. 

 

Project Status:  

This project will connect Stagecoach Drive from South 93rd Street to South 88th Street.  The contractor has installed the water main and storm sewer infrastructure.  The contract has paved the mainline of the roadway.  They are working on the side street tie-ins.  The project is approximately 80% complete.

Grand Avenue West Segment 6F Sewer   Estimated Start:  Winter 2016

Estimated Completion:  July 2017

Contractor:  Valley Plumbing

 

Project Overview:  This project will install 3,871 LF of 15” and will include 163 LF of 15” tunneled sewer pipe with several manholes. 

 

Project Status:  

The contractor has completed the project with exception of the punch list items and turf restoration.

2016 Intake Program Estimated Start:  March 2017

Project Overview:  This project will replace 26 storm sewer intakes at various locations within the City.  

 

Project Status:  

The contractor has completed the project with exception of the punch list items and turf restoration.

2016 Sewer Rehabilitation Program Estimated Start:  April 2017

Estimated Completion:  August 2017

Contractor:  Insituform Technologies USA

 

Project Overview:  This project will include Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining of approximately 860 linear feet of fifteen-inch (15”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 1,291 linear feet of twenty-four-inch (24”) diameter sanitary sewer, and approximately 1,126 linear feet of thirty-six-inch (36”) diameter sanitary sewer and other miscellaneous associated work. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the three areas of the lining.  They will have a section near Vine Street that they will rework in late July.  They will be cleaning up the sites and removing equipment and materials.  Any turf restoration that may be necessary will be completed this fall.

Raccoon river park road drainage improvements Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  6/30/2017

Contractor:  Corell Contractor

 

Project Overview:  Construction of the Raccoon River Park Road Drainage Improvements, including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 2751 LF of HDPE subdrain, 9 subdrain cleanouts, 1225 CY of topsoil and seeding & fertilizing.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has finished the project with final seeding occurring this fall.

public safety station #21 hvac improvements project Estimated Start:  In Progress

Estimated Completion:  05/09/2017

Contractor:  Woodruff Construction, LLC.

 

Project Overview:  The Project consists of the replacement of the mechanical systems serving the normally occupied portions of Public Safety Station 21 (all areas other than the vehicle bay). The existing mechanical systems serving these areas shall be removed, along with all system components other than those indicated to remain.  A new HVAC system shall be provided, including two boilers, an air-cooled chiller, a dedicated outside air air-handling unit, fan coil units, circulation pumps, distribution piping, new kitchen exhaust hood and make-up air unit, and ductwork.  Perimeter heating will be provided with heating hot water in select areas of the building. A new building automation system will be provided to serve all new mechanical system components. An alternate related to alternate building automation system manufacturers will be included as part of the bid. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor is substantially complete and is working on punch list items.

public safety station 18 Exterior improvements project Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  09/30/2017

Contractor:  Brocon Services

 

Project Overview:  A remodeling project to provide a new single ply roof, a new metal roof, and other exterior envelope work at Station 18 at 5025 Grand Ave. Work includes selective demolition, concrete, masonry, metals, carpentry, insulation, windows, finishes, mechanical, electrical, and limited site work.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed most of the roof replacement.  The materials are on order for the window repairs and work will resume as soon as the materials has been delivered.

2017 PCC Patching and Medians program Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  11/22/2017

Contractor:  Concrete Company

 

Project Overview:  Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Patching at various locations including approximately 3,381 SY of reinforced 7” PCC full depth patching, 120 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching, 802 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching, 215 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 530 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 47 SY of reinforced 10” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), PCC curb and gutter replacement, intake reconstruction, manhole adjustments, drives, sidewalks, traffic control, traffic loops, and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  

This project has been awarded to the Concrete Company and they plan to start the week of July 17th.

2017 parking lot repairs Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Contractor:  JDA

 

Project Overview: 

Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Patching of parking lots at Fire Stations 17, 18, and 19 in West Des Moines including approximately 2,868 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching, 130 SY of double reinforced 10” PCC full depth patching, 185 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), PCC curb and gutter, subdrain installation, sidewalks, traffic control and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  

The contractor is currently working at Station #19.  They have completed Station #17 and Station #18 repairs.

2016 ADA Sidewalk Improvements Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  09/15/2017

Contractor:  MNM Concrete Specialists

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 1,050 square yard (SY) of sidewalk removal, 520 SY of 4” P.C.C. sidewalk, 450 SY of 6” P.C.C. sidewalk, 45 SY of 6” reinforced P.C.C. trail, 1400 Linear Feet (LF) of curb removal, 1400 LF of curb and gutter, fixture adjustments, miscellaneous grading, restoration, traffic control, and other associated work.        

 

Project Status:  

This contractor has poured ramps on 7th Street, 16th Street, South 35th Street and 17th Street.

2016 Durable Pavement Marking Project

2017 PCC Reconstruction Project
Estimated Start:  Summer 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Alliance Construction

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 3900 square yard (SY) of pavement removal, 3900 SY of 6” P.C.C. pavement with integral curb, 4500 SY of subgrade preparation, 4500 SY of granular subbase, 1500 SY of driveway pavement, 650 Linear Feet (LF) of storm sewer, 2100 LF of subdrain, drainage structures, fixture adjustments, sidewalk pavement, miscellaneous grading, restoration, survey, traffic control, and other associated work.

 

Project Status:  

They are currently working on the subbase in the 100 block of 3rd Street.  This will require a full road closure.  Each block will require approximately 6 to 7 weeks to complete. The scope of the project will be full reconstruction of 100 to 300 block of 3rd Street.

The contractor currently has the 100 block closed.  They have completed the storm sewer installation and are working on the road subbase.

The contractor will close the 200 block of 2nd Street Tuesday July 18th.  They will be removing the pavement and installing storm sewer.

2017 HMA Resurfacing Project
Estimated Start:  Summer 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Des Moines Asphalt

 

Project Overview:  This project will resurface various locations in the City of West Des Moines.  Types of work including approximately 2556 tons of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) HT ½” surface course, 298 tons of HMA HT ½” leveling course 3764 tons of HMA HT ½” surface course,  3670 tons of HMA HT ½” intermediate course, 6597 square yards of grinding butt joints, 12819 square yards of asphalt surface milling, 62832 square yards of surface cleaning/tack coat, 4778 square yards of  PCC full depth patching, HMA full depth patching, HMA partial depth patching, fixture adjustments, pavement markings, traffic control, and miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  

The contractor is patching on Buffalo Road between 73rd Street and 19th Place and 39th Street between Ashworth Road and Woodland Avenue. Asphalt paving will occur on Buffalo Road within the next two weeks. 

The contractor will close and pave new asphalt at Mills Civic & 88th Street intersection around Houston Cemetery this weekend.  The closure will begin on Saturday at 6am and reopen Monday at 6am.

Holiday Park Baseball Improvements - Phase 4B and 5

Estimated Start:  June 2017
Estimated Completion:  October 2017
Contractor:  Iowa Athletic Field Construction
Project Overview:  Improvements to fields 7 and 8 (phase 4B) and fields 9 and 10 (phase 5). Improvements will include renovation of the existing ballfields including new infield material, sod, irrigation and dugouts. Other site improvements will include new pedestrian walkways, field lighting, and storm water improvements.

 

Project Status: Contractor has begun demo of field 7 and installation of new storm water utilities.

Woodland Hills Park Site Development

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016
Estimated Completion:  Spring 2017
Contractor:  Joiner Construction, Inc.
Project Overview:  Development of Woodland Hills Park located at 1230 S. 95th Street. Improvements include construction of a 2-5 and 5-12 yr-old playground; shelter; restroom; parking lot; and concrete walks. Water quality measures will also be incorporated including permeable pavers; bioretention cells; and soil restoration.

 

Project Status: Contractor has substantially completed the project and is currently working through final punchlist items. Park is expected to be officially opened by mid July.

Valley View Park Tennis Courts

Fairmeadows Park Playground Replacement 

Estimated Start:  Summer 2017
Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017
Contractor:  Caliber Concrete
Project Overview:  Last Fall a City Engineering project to replace a storm sewer pipe under Locust Street directly impact the park including removal of the playground equipment, volleyball court, portions of sidewalk, misc tree removals, and stream channel reconstruction. This Spring, a separate Parks project will be contracted to restore the park including new playground equipment, sidewalks, and site restoration. During construction the park will remain closed to the public. 

 

Project Status: Project has been awarded and a preconstruction meeting held on May 18. Contractor plans on starting construction the week of July 10. For more information on the proposed improvements, visit the online storymap.

JORDAN CREEK PARK COMMUNITY GARDENS - WATER SERVICE INSTALLATION

Contractor:  Joiner Construction, Inc.
Project Overview:  Installation of a permanent water service line as part of the expansion of the WDM Community Garden Program. Scope of work includes installation of a water service line, associated plumbing and installation of hose bib assemblies. In addition, City staff will be tilling ground to accommodate approximately 80 new garden plots. The new community gardens are expected to be ready for the 2017 garden season. Project Status: Project is complete and all 80 garden plots have been rented for 2017.
