The Fact Book contains a wide variety of information and data regarding the City of West Des Moines. The City's Community and Economic Development Department updates the Fact Book on a regular basis and attempts to provide interesting and useful information for citizens as well as others interested in West Des Moines. The purpose of the Fact Book is to provide the reader with demographic information about the City. Iowa Workforce Development tracks monthly unemployment in Polk, Dallas, Madison and Warren counties.

The City of West Des Moines completed a Laborshed Study in 2016 in conjunction with the cities of Clive and Waukee, MidAmerican Energy, Greater Dallas County Development Alliance, Greater Des Moines Partnership and Des Moines Area Community College. The study generated an Executive Summary report and a comprehensive wage report. West Des Moines also completed a Laborshed Study in 2014 with Iowa Workforce Development which details commuting patterns, labor availability, wage rates, and education levels.
