Project Overview:  Construction of the Ashworth Road from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street including 6,000 CY of Topsoil, 13,800 CY of Excavation, 7,000 CY of Below Grade Excavation (Core Out), 19,750 SY of Subgrade Preparation.  2,864 LF of Storm Sewer, 29 Storm Sewer Intakes and 4 Storm Sewer Manholes.  2,713 LF of Subdrain, Subdrain Outlets and Connections.  204 LF of Water Main and Fittings.  23 LF of Sanitary Sewer and 1 sanitary sewer manhole.  800 SY of 6 inch Non-Reinforced PCC, 920 SY of 6 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 218 SY of 7 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 17,460 SY of 9.5 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 2,496 SY of PCC Driveway, 2,427 SY of PCC Shared Use Path, and pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals.  And other miscellaneous work including Clearing and Grubbing, Traffic Control, Construction Survey, Erosion Control, Pavement Markings, Seeding, Fixture Adjustments and other Miscellaneous Removals.

 

Project Status:  Ashworth Road is open from Jordan Creek Parkway to 88th Street.  The restoration and punch list items are currently in progress.

Veterans Parkway Project, SE Maffitt Lake Road to SE Adams Street

Estimated Start:  June 2018

Estimated Completion:  September 2019

Contractor:  McAninch Corporation

 

Project Overview:  This project is generally described as the extension of Veteran’s Parkway from SE Maffitt Lake Road to approximately 1000 feet southwest of Adams Street.  This project includes approximately 30,000 SY of reinforced portland cement concrete paving, earthwork, storm sewer, water main, construction survey, surface restoration, traffic control, and other miscellaneous work needed to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The project started in late April but experienced weather delays through most of May. SE Adams Street will be closing on Monday June 17th at 7:00 am for paving. SE County Line Road will remain closed until paving is complete in summer of 2019. Paving is scheduled to start the week of June 17th.

Veterans Parkway Project SE Adams Street to SE 50th Street

Estimated Start:  June 2018

Project Overview:  Construction of Veterans Parkway between the Alluvion TIF Boundary and SE 50th St, including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 35,107 SY of PCC paving, 136,800 CY of excavation, 9646 LF of RCP storm sewer and 8205 LF of water main.

 

Project Status:  The project experienced weather delays most of the spring of 2019. SE 50th street will remain closed to traffic until all road construction in the area is complete. SE 35th Street will remain closed until paving is complete in summer of 2019. Paving is scheduled to start the week of June 17th.

Veterans parkway bridge over i-35

Estimated Start:  May 2018

Project Overview:  Construction of Veterans Parkway bridge over I-35.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is working on the bridge over I-35. The bridge deck has been poured and set up for the barrier rail is in progress. The project should be complete by early July.

SW Grand Prairie Parkway,  Veterans Parkway to SW Madison Avenue
Estimated Start:  July 2018

Project Overview:  Construct SW Grand Prairie Parkway from Veterans Parkway to SW Madison Avenue including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately: 5,058 LF of storm sewer with 27 structures, 6,806 LF of  water main, 309,331 CY of grading, 13,240 SY of PCC pavement, 13,446 SY of modified subbase, 536 LF of 12-ft by 7-ft reinforced concrete box culvert with drop inlet and outlet, 45 ACRES of permanent surface restoration, 45 ACRES of temporary surface restoration, erosion control including 1,308 TON of riprap, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is working on grading, water main and storm sewer. The intersection of Grand Prairie Parkway and Madison Avenue (SW 370th Court) will be under construction with limited access to complete the paving.  The intersection will be reopened as soon as possible to allow access to the completed section of Grand Prairie Parkway. The contractor begn paving the week of June 10th.

Grand Avenue stormwater pumps Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Project Overview:  Construct an access ramp for mobile pumps including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for installation of approximately: 1634 CY of grading, 463 SY of paving, 95 LF of water main including fittings and valves, surface restoration, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

The project will be let on February 13th and awarded on February 19th, 2019.

Valley Junction alleys phase 5b Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  May 2019

Contractor:  Corell Contractor

 

Project Overview:  Reconstruct three alleys in the 500 block.  The locations are between 4th and 5th, 8th and 9th, 9th and 10th.

The project will be let on February 13th and awarded on February 19th, 2019.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the alley between 8th and 9th. They are currently working on the alley between 9th and 10th.

valley west drive & westown parkway - storm sewer improvements Estimated Start:  Winter 2019

Project Overview:  Storm Sewer Improvements and necessary pavement reconstruction including 676 LF of storm sewer, 7 Intakes, 3 Manholes, 922 SY Paving, Traffic Control, and Erosion Control.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is working on the storm sewer and paving on the west side of Valley West Drive. They have done pavement removals on the east side of Valley West Drive and will start storm sewer replacement next week.

2018 durable pavement marking project Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Project Overview:  Construct durable pavement markings at 60th Street from Mills Civic Parkway to Dakota Drive and at 68th Street from Stagecoach Drive to EP True Parkway in the City of West Des Moines.  Construct additional durable pavement markings at select segments of  Coachlight Drive, Wistful Vista Drive and Beechtree Drive from 68th Street to 60th Street.  Work on this project will include all material, labor and equipment necessary for the construction of the lane markings, symbols, traffic control, cleanup, and miscellaneous associated work.

 

Project Status: The contractor is working on the project.

2018 INTAKE REPAIR PROGRAM Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2019

Contractor:  Hill Contracting

 

Project Overview:  Removal and replacement of twenty-four (24) intake structures and one (1) boxout reconstruction at various locations in the City of West Des Moines, pavement patching, traffic control, and miscellaneous related work. 

 

Project Status:  The project will let on April 10th and be awarded on April 15th, 2019. The contractor plans to start as soon as weather allows.

SW 60th Street Phase 1  Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2019

Contractor:  Concrete Technologies

 

Project Overview:  The project will include construction of 3 segments of urban PCC street and associated work. The first segment will be the regrading and construction of a portion of the existing SW 60th Street alignment north of Cumming Road. The second segment will be the regrading and construction of a portion of the existing 110th Lane alignment between the aforementioned SW 60th Street alignment and a new proposed realignment of SW 60th Street. The third segment will be the grading and construction of a realignment portion of SW 60th Street between the previously mentioned 110th Lane and the proposed construction of the Veterans Parkway extension. Construction activities will include installation of storm sewer, installation of water main, grading, installation of urban PCC paving, installation of longitudinal sub drain, surface restoration and all other related work. 

 

Project Status: The contractor is currently working on the project.

2018 Channel Repair Program Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  Summer 2019

Contractor:  Vanderpool Construction

 

Project Overview:  The project involves repairing impaired stream banks threatening City sanitary sewer infrastructure at three locations and repairing deteriorating storm sewer outlets at four locations in the City.  To repair stream banks, the work includes revetment stone placement including excavation to reinforce and inhibit further erosion of the streambank areas adjacent to City sanitary manholes.  To repair storm sewer outlets, the work includes removing failed flared end sections and pipes, replacing storm sewer pipes, furnishing and/or replacing flared end sections, and installing storm sewer outlet protection including revetment stone to protect the storm sewer outlets and prevent outlet erosion.  Associated sitework improvements include erosion controls, clearing and grubbing, surface restoration, seeding, sodding; removal and replacement of sidewalk, trail, and driveway pavement; removal and replacement of fencing and other related work.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed all but one location.

2019 PCC Reconstruction Program -Vine Street Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2019

Contractor:  Alliance Construction

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 3600 square yard (SY) of pavement removal, 3800 SY of 7" P.C.C. pavement with integral curb, 4300 SY of subgrade preparation, 4300 SY of granular subbase, 130 SY of driveway pavement, 5 sanitary sewer manhole replacements, 100 linear feet (LF) of storm sewer, 1,400 LF of sub drain, drainage structures, fixture adjustments, miscellaneous grading, sod restoration, survey, traffic control, and other associated work.

 

Project Status: The contractor will close Vine Street from 9th Street to 12th Street on Monday, June 24th at 6:00 am.

Project Overview: Storm sewer improvements and necessary pavement reconstruction including 109LF of dual 8’x6’ box culvert. 112LF storm sewer, 2 intakes, 1 manhole, 696SY paving, traffic control and erosion control.

 

Project Status:  27th Street is closed just south of Vine Street.  The contractor is currently working on the project.

Ep true parkway widening (81st to Jordan creek parkway) Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2019

Project Overview:  This project is generally described as the widening of E.P. True Parkway from 81st Street to west of Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.  The project includes approximately 9,580 SY of reinforced Portland cement concrete paving, excavation, storm sewer, pedestrian crossing signal, construction survey, surface restoration, and other miscellaneous work needed to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is working on the segment between Jordan Creek Parkway and 78th Street.  The paving for this section will occur the week of June 10th. The contractor will close EP True Parkway from Bridgewood Drive to 81st Street on Monday June 17th at 6:00 am for the pavement replacement on phase 2. The project is scheduled to have the road open by the time school resumes in August.

PCC Mix), 167 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 192 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 100 SY of reinforced 10” PCC full depth patching  (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 46 SY of reinforced 14” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 100 SF of PCC Partial depth patching, 13,941 LF of joint preventative sealant, PCC curb and gutter replacement, median repair, intake reconstruction, manhole adjustments, drives, sidewalks, traffic control, traffic loops, and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status: The contractor is patching on Westown Parkway and 28th Street.

South 88th Street & Mills Civic Reconstruction Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2020

Contractor:  McAninch

 

Project Overview:  This project is generally described as the South 88th Street and Mills Civic Parkway Reconstruction; ¼ mile, north, south and west and ½ mile east of the intersection.  This project includes approximately 34,700 SY of reinforced Portland cement concrete paving, 7,360 SY of reinforced Portland cement concrete shared-use path, earthwork, 8,000 LF of storm sewer, 1,700 LF of water main, traffic signals, construction survey, surface restoration, traffic control, and other miscellaneous work needed to complete the project.  The project has a one alternate bid to provide 3,800 LF of joint utility trench composed of 12-4” HDPE conduits and associated hand holes.  The award of the project will be determined solely on the base bid total.

Stage 1A shall be completed and open to traffic by June 1, 2019.  All concrete street paving shall be completed and open to traffic by November 15, 2019.  The remainder of the work shall be completed by May 15, 2020.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has closed 91st Street and is working west of 88th Street on Stage 1A.

Project Status:  Ashworth Road between 88th Street and 98th Street is closed.  They are currently grading and installing storm sewer.

Booneville Road Improvements - S. 88th street to S. 100th street Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Project Overview:  Construct BOONEVILLE ROAD from S 88TH STREET to west of S 100TH STREET including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately: 6,200 LF of storm sewer with 67 structures, 4,800 LF of water main, 113,520 CY of grading, 22,500 SY of PCC pavement, driveways and sidewalk, 24 ACRES of surface restoration, erosion control including 490 TON of riprap and erosion stone, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is hauling in fill material to start grading. Tree removal is also in progress.

2019 HMA Program Estimated Start:  Spring 2019

Project Overview:  This project will resurface various locations in the City of West Des Moines. Types of work including approximately 598 tons of HMA HT ½” leveling course, 2,271 tons of HMA interlayer, 5642 tons of HMA HT ½” surface course, 14,185 square yards of surface milling, 18,110 linear feet of crack cleaning and filling, 3,231 square yards of PCC full depth patching, 79 square yards of PCC 5-Hour Mix full depth patching, 387 square yards of PCC sidewalk, 420 linear feet of PCC curb and gutter, 92 square yards of HMA full depth patching, fixture adjustments, pavement markings, traffic control, and miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has been doing concrete patching in preparation of the asphalt overlay. They are working on Westown Parkway. Cody Drive east of 50th Street is scheduled for paving on June 25th.

Project Overview:  Construction of a 10' wide concrete trail around the perimeter of Woodland Hills Park.  Portions of the trail loop have been completed with other park projects along the southern and western side of the park, and this project would complete the loop.

2019 CONCRETE TRAIL RENOVATION PROJECT Estimated Start:   Spring 2019

Contractor:  Concrete Connection LLC
Project Overview:   Replacement of sections of existing concrete trail located primarily along S 50th St  (from Grand Ave to Wistful Vista Dr) and Mills Civic Pkwy (from I35 to Waterford Dr).  The areas being repaired were identified based on the City's yearly trail inspection program.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed repairs along S 50th St (north of Mills Civic Pkwy and all patches along Mills Civic Pkwy. Remaining patches along S 50th (south of Mills Civic Pkwy) and at Crossroads and Peony Park will be completed over the next several weeks.

KIWANIS PARK SHELTER REPLACEMENT Estimated Start:   Spring 2019

Project Overview:   Replacement of 20 year old wood gazebo with new hexagon metal shelter structure.  The project includes removal & disposal of shelter, removal of surrounding concrete & shrubs, supply & installation of a new shelter, new sidewalk paving, and site restoration.

 

Project Status: Project has been awarded and a preconstruction meeting with the contractor has been held. Shelter design has been approved and contractor with be coordinating with fabricator delivery and installation of shelter by mid-August.

JORDAN CREEK OXBOW RESTORATION Estimated Start:   Fall 2018

Contractor:  City of West Des Moines
Project Overview:  Restoration project to restore several oxbows along Jordan Creek between 39th St and 50th St. Oxbows provide a variety of ecological benefits including: providing wildlife habitat, providing flood storage, and improving water quality. This project is being supported by City of West Des Moines, The Nature Conservancy, and Natural Resources Conservation Service.

 

Project Status:  Project is substantially complete. Replacement of trail sections damaged by construction is expected to be completed week of June 24th. Jordan Creek Trail will be closed between 50th St and 39th St during repairs.

VETERANS PKWY ENHANCEMENTS - FOLDED FLAGS Estimated Start:   Winter 2018

Project Overview:  This project consists of fabrication and installation of 15 sculptural elements intended to commemorate the contributions of Veterans. The elements resemble a folded US flag comprised of molded polycarbonate, painted and internally illuminated.

 

Project Status:  Project has been completed and a dedication ceremony was held on June 14. Visit WDM.IOWA.GOV/VPWE for pictures of the event.

Grand AVENUE TRAIL - NORTH OF FULLER ROAD Estimated Start:   Spring 2019

Project Overview:  Construction of 10’ wide concrete trail within the street right-of-way of Grand Avenue between Fuller Road and connecting to the existing 4’ sidewalk crossing the bridge over Jordan Creek.  Project to include traffic control, excavation, storm sewer & utility adjustments, pavement removals, 6” reinforced concrete trail, new driveway approach, erosion control and site restoration

 

Project Status:  Paving of trail has been completed. Contractor will be completing restoration including sodding and seeding of disturbed areas week of June 17. Trail is anticipated to be open by June 21.

Project Overview:   Phase 1 of construction for Hidden Point Park located at 1250 S Hidden Point Ct.  The project includes overall grading of the park site, installation of the site utilities for future shelter & restroom, installation of concrete parking lot, trails and sidewalks, installation of a separate 2-5 age and 5-12 age playgrounds, and final site restoration.

 

Project Status:  Contractor continues to work on completing grading operations and completing installation of site utilities.

Project Overview:   Phase 1 of construction for Whisper Point Park located at 9125 Bridgewood Blvd. The project includes overall grading of the park site, installation of site utilities, construction of a restroom facility, 2-5 and 5-12 age playground, concrete sidewalks & trails, water quality improvements and site restoration. Two small shelters and the parking lot will be constructed as part of parkland dedication requirements for area developments, and are not part of this contract.

 

Project Status:  Contractor has started grading and utility work related to project.

NEIGHBORHOOD PARK ENTRY SIGNAGE Estimated Start:   Summer 2019

Project Overview:   Replacement of the neighborhood park signs located throughout the park system.  Many of the current signs are over 20 years old and showing signs of decay and age.  The new signs are designed in the same family as other signs throughout the City, and will be constructed of a combination of corten steel, sandblasted aluminum, and stainless steel lettering, mounted on a concrete base 

 

Project Status:  Project has been awarded and a preconstruction meeting has been scheduled.

Pinedale Park Improvements Estimated Start:   Summer 2019

Project Overview:   Construction of Pinedale Park located at 3375 Woodland Ave. The project includes demolition of the existing asphalt courts, overall grading of the park site, installation of a small shelter, playground equipment & surfacing, multi-use court, concrete sidewalk connections, stormwater improvements, and site restoration.         

 

Project Status:  Project has been awarded and a preconstruction meeting with the contractor has been held. Grading operations are anticipated to begin in July.

RACCOON RIVER PARK BOATHOUSE Estimated Start:   Summer 2019
Estimated Completion:  Spring  2020
Contractor:  Cerebral Group LLC
Project Overview:   Construction of the Raccoon River Park Boathouse located near the main entrance at Raccoon River Park (2400 Grand Avenue). The boathouse will provide improved access and boating opportunities on Blue Heron Lake, and will also provide river trail portage and shuttle service for access points along the Raccoon River.  This facility would house a variety of boat and bike rentals, concession accommodations, patio & lake dock, sitting & viewing areas and restroom facilities.        

 

Project Status:  Project has been awarded and a preconstruction meeting with the contractor has been scheduled.
