Controlled Bowhunt Program
Location: Southwoods Park, 350 S. 35th Street
In 2004, the Parks and Recreation Department established the City’s controlled bowhunt program in Southwoods Park. Later, private property deer management zones were also established. Since then, over 200 deer have been harvested by volunteer hunters. This has resulted in a positive impact on deer numbers – decreasing from 286 per square mile in Southwoods Park in 2003 to 54 per square mile in 2014.
