South 60th Street Improvements phase I & II

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Estimated Completion:  December 2017

Contractor:  Concrete Technologies

 

Project Overview:  Reconstruction of South 60th Street from Grand Avenue to Mills Civic Parkway.  

 

Project Status:  South 60th Street is open between Mills Civic Parkway and Grand Avenue. The contractor will be working on turf restoration for Phase II and punch list items for both Phases I & II in the spring.

South Grand Prairie Parkway
Estimated Start:  July 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2018

Contractor:  SM Hentges & Sons

 

Project Overview:  Construct S. Grand Prairie Parkway from SW Madison Avenue to Raccoon River Drive including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately: 2,400 LF of sanitary sewer, 6,190 LF of storm sewer with 37 structures, 6,925 LF of   24-inch water main including an encased river crossing, 462,170 CY of grading, 23,670 SY of PCC pavement and bridge approach, a 538-ft x 30-ft pretensioned prestressed concrete beam bridge with a 12-ft trail, 55 ACRES of surface restoration, erosion control including 9,940 TON of riprap, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

 

Project Status:  The contractor continues hauling dirt for the fill sections north of the river.  They have completed all the sub structure of the bridge over Raccoon River and will be setting the last set of beams this week.  They continue to tie steel for the deck.  They have completed the concrete encased utility crossing under the river for sanitary sewer and water main.    They are installing water main and storm sewer north of the river.

Ashworth Road Phase I Reconstruction
Estimated Start:  August 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2018

Project Overview:  Construction of the Ashworth Road from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street including 6,000 CY of Topsoil, 13,800 CY of Excavation, 7,000 CY of Below Grade Excavation (Core Out), 19,750 SY of Subgrade Preparation.  2,864 LF of Storm Sewer, 29 Storm Sewer Intakes and 4 Storm Sewer Manholes.  2,713 LF of Subdrain, Subdrain Outlets and Connections.  204 LF of Water Main and Fittings.  23 LF of Sanitary Sewer and 1 sanitary sewer manhole.  800 SY of 6 inch Non-Reinforced PCC, 920 SY of 6 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 218 SY of 7 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 17,460 SY of 9.5 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 2,496 SY of PCC Driveway, 2,427 SY of PCC Shared Use Path, and pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals.  And other miscellaneous work including Clearing and Grubbing, Traffic Control, Construction Survey, Erosion Control, Pavement Markings, Seeding, Fixture Adjustments and other Miscellaneous Removals.

 

Project Status:  Ashworth Road is open from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street.  All sanitary and storm sewer work was completed this fall.  Grading and paving will begin when weather allows in the spring 2018. Ashworth Road Phase I Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street will be closed from spring to fall 2018.

Ashworth Road Phase II Reconstruction Estimated Start:  Spring 2018

Project Overview:  Construction of the Ashworth Road from 81st Street to 88th Street including 9,200CY of Topsoil, 7,800 CY of Excavation, 35,100 CY of Contractor Supplied Borrow, 7,000 CY of Below Grade Excavation (Core Out), 24,452 SY of Subgrade Preparation.  4,282 LF of Storm Sewer, 37 Storm Sewer Intakes and 6 Storm Sewer Manholes.  3,467 LF of Subdrain, Subdrain Outlets and Connections. 2,730 LF of Water Main and Fittings.  192 SY of 7 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 664 SY of 8 inch PCC Pavement, 22,174 SY of 9.5 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 2,382 SY of PCC Driveway, 3,231 SY of PCC Shared Use Path, and pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals.  156 LF of Twin 8’x5’ Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert.  And other miscellaneous work including Clearing and Grubbing, Traffic Control, Construction Survey, Erosion Control, Pavement Markings, Seeding, Fixture Adjustments and other Miscellaneous Removals.

 

Project Status:  Work on the proposed box culvert is projected to start mid-March which will require Ashworth Road to be closed from 88th Street to 84th Street with additional closures to follow.  Tree cutting is scheduled to start March 1st pending weather.  The utility companies will start relocation gas and electric lines in early March.

COACHLIGHT DRIVE (s 81ST sTREET TO sOUTH jORDAN cREEK pARKWAY) Estimated Start:  Fall 2017

Estimated Completion:  Summer 2018

Contractor:  Absolute Concrete

 

Project Overview:  Construction of Coachlight Drive and S 77th St, including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 12,968 SY of PCC paving, 20,150 CY of excavation, 4929 LF of storm sewer, 2941 LF of sanitary sewer, and 3718 LF of water main. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor completed the water main and sanitary sewer installation.  Due to the great weather late this fall they were able to complete 80% of the storm sewer installation.  They have stopped work for the remainder of the winter until the forecast looks reasonable to resume.

Maple Grove Lift Station Estimated Start:  Spring 2018

Project Overview:  Construct Maple Grove Lift Station including all labor, material and equipment necessary to construct approximately 2,684 linear feet of 18-inch sewer in open cut, 220 linear feet of 18-inch sanitary sewer tunneled in place, 1,410 linear feet of 12-inch force main, lift station, excavation, backfill, manholes, connections to existing sewer, surface restoration, traffic control and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.

 

Project Status:  The contractor will start tree cutting in late February.

Veterans Parkway Tree Cutting Project Estimated Start:  Late Winter 2018

Estimated Completion:  March 2018

Project Overview:  The removal and off-site disposal of trees and brush within the right-of-way and temporary construction easements along the future Veterans Parkway alignment from SE 50th Street to SE Maffitt Lake Road.

 

Project Status:  The contractor started cutting trees the week of February 12th.

2017 Sewer Rehabilitation program

Estimated Start:  Spring 2018

Estimated Completion:  June 2018

Contractor:  Hydro-Klean

 

Project Overview:  Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining of approximately 8,647 linear feet of eight-inch (8”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 1,529 linear feet of ten-inch (10”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 361 linear feet of twelve-inch (12”) diameter sanitary sewer, and approximately 410 linear feet of eighteen-inch (18”) diameter sanitary sewer and other miscellaneous associated work.  Project also includes excavation and repair of one (1) sanitary sewer pipe on 44th Street.  Work includes 23 SY of pavement removal and replacement, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work.   

 

Project Status:  The preconstruction meeting will be held the week of February 12th.

2017 Sewer Cleaniing & Televising Program

Estimated Start:  February 2018

Estimated Completion:  June 2018

Contractor:  Visu-Sewer

 

Project Overview:  Type A Cleaning & Televising of approximately 60,000 linear feet of eight inch (8”) through thirty-six inch (36”) diameter Sanitary Sewer, Type C Root Removal of approximately 4,200 linear feet of eight inch (8”) through twenty-four inch (24”) diameter Sanitary Sewer, Cutting of any Protruding Taps, and other miscellaneous associated work.

 

Project Status:  The contractor plans to start work in late February.

Holiday Park Baseball Improvements - Phase 4B and 5

Estimated Start:  June 2017
Estimated Completion:  October 2017
Contractor:  Iowa Athletic Field Construction
Project Overview:  Improvements to fields 7 and 8 (phase 4B) and fields 9 and 10 (phase 5). Improvements will include renovation of the existing ballfields including new infield material, sod, irrigation and dugouts. Other site improvements will include new pedestrian walkways, field lighting, and storm water improvements.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed the project including site restoration. .

Woodland Hills Park Site Development

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016
Estimated Completion:  Spring 2017
Contractor:  Joiner Construction, Inc.
Project Overview:  Development of Woodland Hills Park located at 1230 S. 95th Street. Improvements include construction of a 2-5 and 5-12 yr-old playground; shelter; restroom; parking lot; and concrete walks. Water quality measures will also be incorporated including permeable pavers, bioretention cells, and soil restoration.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed the project and the park is officially open.

Valley View Park Tennis Courts

Project Overview:  Construction of a pair of lighted asphalt tennis courts.

Fairmeadows Park Playground Replacement

Project Overview:  Last Fall a City Engineering project to replace a storm sewer pipe under Locust Street directly impact the park including removal of the playground equipment, volleyball court, portions of sidewalk, misc tree removals, and stream channel reconstruction. This Spring, a separate Parks project will be contracted to restore the park including new playground equipment, sidewalks, and site restoration. During construction the park will remain closed to the public. 

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed the project and the park is officially open.

39TH STREET PARKING LOT

Project Overview:  Construction of a 45-stall parking lot with two access drives off of 39th Street. The parking lot will serve as a trail head for Jordan Creek Trail as well as serve as overflow parking for the Rugby Club located across the street. Project includes utility adjustments, site grading, storm water improvements, concrete paving, erosion control and site restoration.

 

Project Status: Contractor has substantially completed the project including site restoration. A separate landscape project consisting of trees and shrubs will be completed in the Spring.

RACCOON RIVER PARK PORTABLE TOILET ENCLOSURES & PICNIC SHELTER Estimated Start:   Summer 2017
Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017
Contractor:  Minturn Inc.
Project Overview:  Construction of enclosures to screen (3) portable toilets located throughout Raccoon River Park. In addition, project also includes installation of a small picnic shelter near the Fishing Pier. Other associated items include concrete slabs, sidewalks, footings, and site restoration.

 

Project Status: Concrete work including footings and flat work has been completed. Enclosures and picnic shelter are being fabricated and scheduled to be delivered and installed by early February.

S. 19TH STREET TRAIL & SIDEWALK Estimated Start:   Spring 2017

Contractor:  Concrete Professionals of Iowa
Project Overview:  Removal of the older segment of asphalt trail along S. 19th Street and replacement with a standard 4’ wide concrete sidewalk.  Work includes traffic control, concrete & asphalt removals, drive & curb replacements, installation of concrete sidewalk & small section of trail, site restoration, and other associated work.

 

Project Status: Contractor has substantially completed the project including site restoration. Turf areas needing over seeded will be completed in the Spring.

Project Overview:  Construction of multi-use trail across railroad at entrance to Raccoon River Park.

2017 Asphalt TRAIL RENOVATION - KNOLLS GREENWAY TRAIL Estimated Start:   Spring 2018
Estimated Completion:  Spring 2018
Contractor:  Grimes Asphalt
Project Overview:  Renovation of a ¼ mile section of asphalt trail located in Knolls Greenway between Aspen Drive and Ashworth Road. Project will include full depth on-site recycling of the existing trail to act as base for a new 3" HMA overlay. Other associated item include pavement removals, new sidewalk and pedestrian ramps with detectable warning panels, traffic control, and site restoration (seeding).

 

Project Status: Contractor is scheduled to begin work in early spring 2018.
