This year’s parade route starts at Valley West Drive (35th Street) and Ashworth Road and heads east; turns south on Vine Street to 12th Street; turns south on 12th to Locust; turns east on Locust to 8th Street; turns North on 8th street to Vine; turns east on Vine to 4th Street; turns south on 4th Street and concludes at Maple Street.
The West Des Moines Fireworks Display will be held at dusk on Thursday, July 4, over Blue Heron Lake in Raccoon River Park, 2500 Grand Avenue.
Fireworks attendees should allow for extra travel time since the fireworks display attracts over 10,000 people each year and the area will be congested. Attendees also are advised to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations and use insect repellents with DEET as directed. Long-sleeved shirts and pants also help prevent bugs from biting.
The West Des Moines Public Services Department will be ground spraying (fogging) for mosquitoes, flies and gnats in parks where large groups of people gather, weather permitting, during the evening hours of Wednesday, July 3. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Public Services Department at 222-3480.
For your safety, the use of consumer fireworks in West Des Moines is not allowed at any time.
City Hall and most City offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Garbage collection will be delayed one day for the rest of the week following the holiday, with Friday’s collection delayed until Saturday.
