New Year's Traffic Enforcement
For Further Information Contact
Officers from the West Des Moines Police Department in conjunction with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) will conduct high visibility traffic enforcement over the New Year Weekend, December 29 through January 1, in an effort to reduce traffic related injuries and deaths on Iowa roadways. This sTEP (special Traffic Enforcement Program) event will consist of heightened enforcement for all traffic violations with the main effort to raise awareness in safety belt use and to identify those individuals who choose to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The increased traffic enforcement is intended to serve as a reminder for drivers to obey all traffic laws and to help keep Iowa roadways safe.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, as of December 21, there have been 326 deaths on Iowa roadways in 2018. Safe driving is a choice. Obey the speed limit, avoid distractions like cell phones, wear your seatbelt, properly secure children, and never drive drunk or high. If you feel different, you drive different.
