Independence Day activities in West Des Moines!

Post Date:06/29/2018 3:56 PM
The Independence Day parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3. The route begins at the corner of Valley West Drive (35th Street) and Ashworth Road, proceeds east on Ashworth, turns south on Vine Street and follows Vine to 4th Street where it turns south and ends on Maple Street.

The West Des Moines Fireworks Display will be held at dusk on Wednesday, July 4, over Blue Heron Lake in Raccoon River Park, 2500 Grand Avenue.

Fireworks attendees should allow for extra travel time since the fireworks display attracts over 10,000 people each year and the area will be congested. Attendees also are advised to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations and use insect repellents with DEET as directed. Long-sleeved shirts and pants also help prevent bugs from biting.

To assist with mosquito control, the West Des Moines Public Services Department will be ground spraying (fogging) for mosquitoes, flies and gnats in various areas of the City, weather permitting, during the evening hours of Monday, July 2, through Tuesday, July 3. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Public Services Department at 222-3480.

City Hall and most City offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Garbage collection will be delayed one day for the rest of the week following the July 4 holiday, with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday.
